this doesn't apply for Eminem, his entire career is partly built on dissing non-rappers and US presidents (other than Obama of course wink wink).

I still like his old music more than any other rappers music but I do acknowledge he's lame as hell. Even in his old music, he goes on about how much negative attention he would get. Did this even happen? Or was he overplaying it.

To keep the bodybuilding analogy of the screencap, it's like a bodybuilder who made his name going around mogging famous people. Bodybuilding fans might like him for it, but those non-bodybuilders will be left untouched because the mogging only has an effect within the bodybuilding community. No politician is going to lose votes because the bodybuilding community thought he got BTFO by that bodybuilder.

It wasn't happening at all, and he was begging for it. All the actual negative attention was going to Marilyn Manson. Eminem was (and is) a funny novelty rapper, while Manson was unironically getting blamed for Columbine, and people were legitimately nervous to let him play their towns.
