Rapping without the beat is not music but "rap music" is rapping over a beat which is music.
Basically a spoken word recording itself is not music, but spoken word vocal over a rock instrumental would be music (TVU's The Gift for example), same way with hip-hop.

A tribe playing drums in the jungle is not really making music. Their drums are not meant for aesthetic enjoyment, but for performing a ritual. It's supposed to be like an ominous, scary introduction to the presence of a guiding spirit. Those guys weren't competing against each other for who has the best drum fills and coolest syncopated rhythms. The sound in itself was not supposed to be enjoyed, but to put you in a trance, to conjure up the forces of chaos and fate.

Idk about you but some primordial crazy ritual sounds like a good time for me.

eh not really. Ritual stuff is just what older cultures did since they didn't have nintendo or Internet, so they just ate random poisons and jumping around making noise. Works fine in 1400's tribe in the middle of a forest but not a good idea in the parking lot of a Wendy's 2025.

Just play Skyrim or something, bro.

This comes from an interview he did in 1988.

Would you rather listen to American Beauty (arguably his best album) or It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back, which came out that year?

'Nuff said.

>When Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead died, we had a party in Salem. That guy was a silly prophet guru getting people to take drugs. How many deaths is he responsible for? I considered him a kind of paedophile, going around trying to influence youth through politics or drugs, the kind of parasitical adult who says he’s helping children but wants to destroy their creativity

He didnt mean anything by it but is probably kind of redneck adjacent.
>>126943056
This is probably the most accurate though unless you do it sort of sing song style. But if you're just kind of talking maybe not idk. Give this man a true I guess. The music is stored in the backing instrumental.

They were more trying to sound like country music. But they were all super liberel so when country music started getting seen more and more as racist they were like "nuh uh we are le jzz band",but save for Santana and Spirit most of these bands were closer to country music. A lot of the European bands were flat our even just just just playing eurofolk lol. Look at some shocking Blue songs for instance. Black Artists from the time on the other hand were overall more playing Soul or Funk like Jimi and Funkadelic being very obvious example and The 5th Dimension and Lafayette Afro Rock Band. Arthur Lee was a black musician from the USA who played eurofolk with a bit more room for rhythmic variation and whatnot basically or more alternations and then also lots and lots of yelling,so yu could argue in some ways he was the most forward thinking haha. 7 and 7 is especially is often viewed as extremely early metal prior to Jimi Hendrix,Helter Skelter by The Bestles, the first Steppenwolf Album, before any major VU releases, etcetcetcetc. Basically one of if not the first common example of most metal tropes.
