Anybody else's passion slowly slipping away? I can't connect to anything as deeply as I used to. I don't really even listen to full albums anymore. I just play a couple songs at random, get bored and stop listening. It doesn't matter what I listen to; I never feel anything anymore. The music is just sound now. It's noise. If anything it's just fatiguing. Am I just getting old?

You've heard music. It doesn't do anything else.

You may just have genre fatigue. Try different kinds of music like jazz, motown, classical ,70s, 80s, low-fi chillout anything other than what you were listening to.

you were raised since a child to watch 'musicians' who cant play music lip sync and play air guitar in music videos

you were raised as a child to listen to black people talk over a beat and somehow treat this as some kind of great cultural achievement that you cant be part of but can only stand in awe of

try going back to basics, to music that was made before rock music to discover what music is

Sounds like a life circumstances problem rather than a music problem. Your emotions have to actually be available first before music can do anything with them.

But if songs sound like exhausting noise, maybe you should go hard in the other direction and try non-songs, ambience, drones, actual noise, meditative stuff that slows to a crawl and just creates a world in the background for an hour or so instead of demanding your engagement. It might alter the way you listen.
Here's a range of stuff from that spectrum.

Most music is generic crap, either slop, boring, or mediocre, after listening to thousands, it loses the magic. Try pierced veil :(

I go to thrift stores and buy random cds to explore. Right now I'm listening to 'Experience Peace Instrumental' because it had a cute dove on the cover. Turns out it's instrumental Christian worship music. Very soothing. Also enjoyed some Brazilian bossanova, grit my teeth through some very mediocre synth, zoned out to some Tibetan music, and listened to two entirely separate albums with dolphin sounds. You need to let chance and whim guide your vibe.

Mere consumption of music or really anything isn't going to give you a fulfilling life. That kind of connection with consumerism only happens at a younger age when identity formation is so important. Going out and actually doing something, hobbies, developing relationships, volunteering, building/creating something, achieving something, etc. ends up being far more important

You just take a break from music, there have been years when i havent really listened to anything but then i always regain interest. It goes in cycles. Donโ€™t worry about it. Also donโ€™t listen to something in the background all the time. Music is like drugs.
