If tourette's is considered the โ€œweakestโ€ track here. We might as well accept this album being the greatest of all time.

>The song was inspired by the story of Seattle actress Frances Farmer, who appeared in numerous films and theater productions during her career. Following early accusations of atheism and communism,[4] reports began to surface of allegedly erratic behavior, and Farmer was arrested and committed to psychiatric institutions several times before being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. This led to a stay of several years at Western State Hospital in Lakewood, Washington, at the request of her mother and other family members. In her autobiography, Will There Really Be a Morning?, Farmer later recounted what she called the "unbearable terror" of being in the hospital, claiming that she "was raped by orderlies, gnawed on by rats and poisoned by tainted food. I was chained in padded cells, strapped into strait-jackets and half-drowned in ice baths."[5] The accuracy of the book, which was published posthumously and partially ghost written by a friend, is disputed, but Farmer is confirmed to have suffered from poor conditions at the hospital, undergoing electroconvulsive shock therapy as was then standard at the institution.[6] After her release in 1950, Farmer successfully fought for release from the conservatorship of her mother and attempted a comeback as an actor. She was diagnosed with esophageal cancer due to her excessive smoking, and died in 1970 at the age of 56.[7]

>In 1931, while a senior at West Seattle High School, Farmer entered and won $100 from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a writing contest sponsored by Scholastic Magazine, with her controversial essay "God Dies".[14] It was a precocious attempt to reconcile her wish for, in her words, a "superfather" God, with her observations of a chaotic and godless world. In her autobiography, she wrote that the essay was influenced by her reading of Friedrich Nietzsche: "He expressed the same doubts, only he said it in German: Gott ist tot. God is dead. This I could understand. I was not to assume that there was no God, but I could find no evidence in my life that He existed or that He had ever shown any particular interest in me. I was not an atheist, but I was surely an agnostic, and by the time I was 16, I was well indoctrinated into this theory."[15]

People talk about how dark this is and it kinda is but I always felt like Nirvana were taking the piss to some degree. Like they're the biggest band in the world and decide to make a Jesus Lizard album, it's a good bit. That and a lot of the lyrics come across more as deadpan than depressing. Great album.

How was the unplooged dark?
If anything it sounds like coffeeshop music.
I do have an issue with Cobain's choice of songs, they all end up sounding lethargic, which makes Scaruffi sound like he was right when he said their music was too navel-gazing.
I would have picked a few more energetic songs from their catalog, maybe tried a Sliver or some cover that was more upbeat and uptempo.

YKYR reflects those last months during which he was under pressure from his hoe wife to quit drugs or else she'd get a divorce. He sounded like he was afflicted by oneitis.

He only existed so white audiences could have something "new yet accessible" that wasn't country music at a time when Rap Music was genuinely prettymuch the dominant genre. He served no other purpose and influenced almost nothing of value. That being said you're right he was shit. The AOR Era Mainstream Rock before that was better and didn't try ad hard to be something it wasn't like Nirvana did especially.

AOR Era Mainstream Rock Mogs and the only reason Nirvana were successful was a niche audience of white people who didn't or wouldn't listen to rap but wanted something le edgy but also weren't (let's be honest) cool or in the know enough for actual punk or metal bands. Something more toned down. I like some STP and some Skin Yard but that's just that simple truth there.
