Listened to picrel through for the first time after only hearing the band’s greatest hits. I’m surprised at how…stonery it feels?

Listen to Fear of Music

Talking Heads are one of those bands where when you venture outside of their more popular songs you get a little surprised at how good they are across all their stylistic changes. Everyone thinks of things like Psycho Killer and Once in a Lifetime but they’ve got some killer deep cuts.

I’m listening to naked now, actually. You’re right, they suit the vaguely Latin/african style pretty well. I may have misrepresented myself a bit in the op. I do know a little more than just psycho killer, and I’m a huge fan of True Stories, their film. I also really enjoyed stop making sense when I got a chance to see it in a theater. It’s kind of odd that I’ve never actually listened through a full album yet from them

I love them. David Byrne is one of my favorite and most influential guitarists, he’s got some great funk rhythm chops while doing vocals and he can pull off some cool lead stuff too when he wants. On top of everything David Byrne is (killer songwriter, killer frontman, killer performer on stage) his guitar playing is really overlooked.

I really liked their first songs, later their albums changed direction, and went down hill from then on.

Is his solo work any good?

It’s alright, I like it but I like Talking Heads more. I’ll listen to his solo stuff every once in a blue moon. Nothing comes close to their first three records and their two live records for me when it comes to TH and their adjacent projects.

The stuff they did with Eno producing/ contributing is their best work IMO; it was Eno who suggested bringing Adrian Belew on for Remain In Light.

If you like those albums then My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts is a must listen, and Songs From The Catherine Wheel is pretty good too but more of Byrne project where MLITBOG is heavily Eno influenced and more of a collaboration.
