guys am I wrong or is he one of the most overrated "rock legends" in history? I mean sure his vocals are pretty good but he also:
>didn't play any instruments

>basically a frontman for hire

He isn't one of the most overrated, he is the most overrated by far. Anyone with a below surface level knowledge of that stuff is aware of it. The jews saw a potential marketable product in his wonky character and were able to very successfully push that product via the media in the US. The guy's face and name are nothing more than a brand, with a very well functioning jew showbusiness machine behind it.
>I mean sure his vocals are pretty good
His singing is alright at best. It's one quality is that it is somewhat unique in how weird it sounded. He's got nothing else in vocal terms, just the nasal wailing that he's known for, which a whole shitload of people can imitate(and have imitated on his "live" shows)
I respect the guy for what he's been through and still being alive and the absolute goofball that he is, but he's NOTHING behind the army of creative and talented musicians behind him.
It's Tony and Jake and Zakk that should be having back pains and difficulty walking from having to carry this retard for 60 years.

While Geezer wrote the lyrics, Ozzy wrote the vocal melodies generally. I don't remember who said it, but I remember one of the band members praising Ozzy's abilities to come up with melodies, and that often times the first thing he sang would end up being used on the song.

Frontmen and frontwomen don't need to write lyrics or play instruments, that's not what they are there for. As long as they've got charisma in spades and they're unique like Ozzy or Roger Daltrey then they're golden.

Same for Kiedis, he's the one who comes up with the melodies, which is what makes the songs memorable or not. So in that way, Ozzy and Tony have more raw talent than Iommi and Frusciante.

neither are they, which is why they stick around this supposed talentless hack, and as much as I love Iommi, he got a reality check with that in the '80s with his Sabbath career gasping for air, commercially and creatively.

This.
It would be like complaining that Tony Iommi doesn't sing or write lyrics. He doesn't need to because his part in the band is playing guitar.

If it weren't for him, Randy Rhoads we might not have gotten the chance to write the guitar parts he did. Who knows he mightve just stayed in quiet riot.

I think there's also something to say about his relationship with his former bandmates. Are any of them in currently fighting? Compared to Neal Schon and Steve Perry from Journey, his bandmates aren't complaining about his lack of contribution to the process. He probably doesn't have much music theory knowledge at all, but he's delivered so many good songs across ensembles.

You do know that Heaven and Hell is the sixth highest-selling Sabbath album, having sold more than Sabotage, right?

You also do know that heavy metal took off in the 80s, it stopped being a novelty and bands were popping up left and right?

Commercially maybe Sabbath did worse than Ozzy, creatively though, their discography post-Ozzy is completing their picture, not spoiling their legacy. Live eviL was ranked number 18 among the 50 greatest rock live albums of all time by Classic Rock, the bootleg for the Black and Blue tour has cult status and generally Sabbath in the 80s were revered.

Those first 2 Dio Sabbath albums were good, but they still floundered during that decade and later on as well, and then they got a number 1 album much later with 13 when Ozzy came back into the fold, though then again when Sharon pulls strings, they're tighter than an Everest rope. Also Live Evil was trash and got mogged by the Ozzy live album of Sabbath covers put out during that time solely just to dunk on Iommi and co. Dio can't do Ozzy songs any more than Ozzy can do Dio(era) songs, i'm sure.

Heaven & Hell was real the moment heavy metal was really born musically as a genre, Ozzy gets way too much credit as the "father" when all comes from proselitism and imaginery rather than the actual musicianship of it. The real father(s) of metal were Dio and, in a lesser extent, Ritchie Blackmore.

Rainbow's records with Dio at helm were hitting true metal levels in the fucking 70s even with some ballad and usual r&r tunes within. Sabbath before than point was just rock and roll and only become metal with Dio and Gillan.

Ozzy was there before the tarzan heavy metal guys in the 80s, and was there after. Dio was just a relic of the 80s.
Its incredible how Ozzy started as a dark hippie before heavy metal, was there during heavy metal, and was there AFTER heavy metal.
And while Dio is technically superior singing it doest really mean shit in a rock frontman. Dio could never pull that shit. As soon as the tarzan screaming fade out Dio dissipated while the king remained. Ozzys solo work in the 90s was great, and not a shitty nostalgia cashgrab like many other 50yo old guys do. He was making new music that entered the canon of rock (again, as if his job with black sabbath wasnt enough).

Jim had a lot more aura, his lyrics were mysterious and simplistic deep vocal delivery matched the mood of the music. Ozzy left most his aura behind when he became a bigger pop culture figure. Not to mention he either credited the lyricist or flat out stole the songwriting credit.

Zep is considered to be the first heavy metal band. Black Dog is a heavy song. So is When the Levee Breaks. Are they as heavy as Symptom of the Universe? No. But they're comparable.

Remember, Zepp went so fucking hard that the Beatles made Helter Skelter to prove they could make metal if they wanted to. I like Black Sabbath a lot more than Led Zeppelin but you have to give credit where credit it due.

They did come up with the sound. Listen to Good Times, Bad Times; a, for all intents and purposes, standard 60s british pop rock composition, turned up by the drumming and soloing.

What "this"? He was mediocre, he just made it work because the style of Sabbath was doomy and heavy. He runs around on stage, big woop di doo. Iommi made vocalists, not the other way around.

In an alternate timeline, he never was in Sabbath and he'd have retired from his factory job for a few years now in Birmingham, living in a terrace house next to a train track with a few mishapen kids and alcoholism, and hating the immigrant wave.
He still ends up succumbing to parkinson but without anyone ever knowing him.

"We just did not know it would be a problem in America, it was just sex and rock 'n' roll. It is odd that in America some of these covers were a problem, because in the '80s when we would tour here, we always had boobs flashed to us at the front of the stage. Nowhere else in the world, just here. We just did not think it would be a problem to put out a record like Lovedrive in America."

Hilarious. Back then and now we are huge hypocrites

You can blame the jews all you want, he was a good frontman and a character. Plenty of more overrated musicians (eg hendrix is literal shit).

>Ozzy is the mascot of metal

Yeah, because Sharon turned heavy metal into a circus

Did you listen to Momoa saying, like reading out of a police report for fuck's sake, "heavy metal...is a coping mechanism".

Not it is not. It is rock and roll, it is protest music.

Daltrey had a voice like a truck though. Ozzy was more persona than anything (after Sabbath at least).

Helter Skelter was written after McCartney heard I Can See For Miles.
