Metal was always a truly more representative genre of the working class than Punk ever was.

Maybe but there was always hardcore for working class kids and of course it was also snubbed by critics.

Punk stopped meaning anything after the early 80s and now mostly exists as a DNC fundraising grift.

It's not about "working class", it's about individualistic elitism and ostracism. Introspection and opposition to all of the world's agents that are against you and your will. Inversion of power, inner exploration, self-knowledge, liberation, and ultimately ego death. Dark enlightenment on a Nietzschean level that transcends labels and broad application due to the particularities of each true listener.

Or, put simply: Judas Priest is fuKKKing killer.

punk's anti-establishment was nothing more than a larp
the genres it influenced (metal, hip-hop) has done more with punching up
heck, even kpop has done more rebellion

The origins dont matter, the ethos do.
Punk
>DIY ethics, makes sound with trashcans and sheet pans if they have to, unfazed by the end result not sounding exactly 'correct'
>you may not like the way i express it, but at least the message is coherent
Metal
>OMG I need an 8 string drop B flat guitar and need to play 128th notes EXACTLY on beat otherwise im a failure
>also no one knows what im saying

Definitely seems that way at least back then.
Punk only existed for a few years in the first place.

All of that is a modern problem that every genre has. It's the same nonsense as people asking forums on 'how to sound punk', 'what guitar for punk rock'. Questions that if you're asking you've already gone off the rails.
All the original metal bands weren't hemmed in by contrivances like this and that's why they were better.

"Punk" was just arrogant people with minimal talent patting themselves on the back for doing things that were ordinary and unremarkable for people in other genres
>OMG when we started we didn't have any record label support, we had to do everything ourselves!
that's always been quite normal across genres

The best "punk" is just shit people do because they feel like it and they dont care what others feel about it, especially if they were unique and had artistry or expression in some sense

I prefer how marxism views the working class. You can make a lot of money so long as that value is derived from your labor. You could even be relatively poor compared to a doctor but exploit others as a business owner & uphold regressive societal structures.
From that point of view every single genre is working class except maybe classical because at the time you required a patron to perform that music. Certainly all modern genres would be working class.

I'm a working class European and what we listen to most is, in order: sentimental pop/folk music, oldies rock music and then whatever slop is on the radio. I have had exactly 1 (one) metalhead colleague in all my years working, and he was a seriously bald outcast with anger issues no one really got along with.
Punk music is student music here. The weird mutant left-leaning type of student. Metal is mostly for lower middle class types. Asked my dad and we don't think it's ever been any different.

Leftists thinking working class somehow meaning that you live and act like a drug addicted hobo is so strange to me. Like, a lot of punks come from good families and arbitrarily decide to live like that, that doesn't mean they're connected to working people. The average working class person just wants to get by and have a good life.
It's why metal was panned by the leftist music critics too, it wasn't trying to convey some deep political message, it was just meant to entertain and "empower" people. Far more appealing to someone who is tired from their 8h shifts and looking for some fun.

i mean if that's the logic we wanna go by then rap, pop and country are the real working class music since those are the most popular. but i think we are talking about what represents the struggles of the working class.
