Was Dio inspired by or experimenting with Nu-metal for this album?

It's completely different than his other discography.

Stuff like roots by sepultura has a vague similarity to the chromaticism, but I'm not actually sure if thats the best comparison to make.

I disagree. I actually like a bunch of songs from the albums after it.

Dio was making gay dungeons and dragons pop metal then Iommi blew him away with Dehumanizer and showed him how it's done then Dio tried to recapture the sound of Dehumanizer twice.

Which is exactly what he did with Strange Highways. That album is basically Dehumanizer 2.0.

He's the most overrated metal icon. Only his Sabbath stuff's good, and that despite of him.

I do think his sabbath and rainbow stuff is better than his solo career, but he has a lot of good songs in his solo career.

I think angry machines is even more experimental than Strange highways. You can definitely see a progression from and similarities to that album.

Strange highways came out in 1993, and angry machines came out in 1996. This is apparently around time numetal got started, so thats why im asking about it.

i dont think Angry Machines have any flavor of nu-metal in it, don't hear it. I feel like its just standard heavy metal album but with some influences from grunge, alt rock and alt metal which were also going strong in those years. While Strange Highways leaned more to the grunge side of metal, this one leans more to alternative/progressive metal.

Yeah, but it still was mostly an underground thing and things moved a lot slower back then. It's not as Korn released their debut album and a month later a bunch of other nu metal bands had popped up. I think it's more likely that Dio was more looking at Pantera and other groove metal bands from the early to mid 90s at that time and wanted that heaviness. And I think it's obvious that he took inspiration from his second stint in Black Sabbath for those two records in particular, like >>127024988 said.

My personal opinion is that Dio's voice started to become worse around Dehumanizer. He started sounded very angry and he used a lot more distortion in his voice which made it sound gravelly.
