They were one of the biggest bands of the 70s. When you factor in their incredible, unprecedented comeback in the 80s and, even more incredibly, their massive success in the 90s and 2000s, they're nearly inarguably the greatest rock band of all time, pound-for-pound.

Odd that they were basically dead in the early to mid 80s and then had a resurgence to levels higher than they were in the 70s and even managed to be successful with their old bluesy rock during peak grunge year 1993

Before KISS became popular they were the 2nd most popular hard rock band in the US with only Zeppelin being more popular concert tours. Once Destroyer became popular KISS and Aerosmith were pretty much on equals terms as far as popularity.

Their only heavy song, Train Kept A Rollin', was not only NOT writtem by them, the solos were not recorded by the guitarists either.

Poor guys burned out a little too quickly because they blew up too fast. CBS wanted to push them as the next Zeppelin but they didn't really want to be that big, they would have been happy as a middle tier AOR band like Blue Oyster Cult.

They way overdid it with the ballads to the point where there was a SNL skit making fun of how they all had some variation of "Amazing" or "Crazy" in the title.

yes, that was the song that destroyed their integrity in the summer of '98. talk to any boomers about Aerosmith and they will roll their eyes and bring that song up along with the other stupid slow ballads that came previously.
