Something tells me he valued individuality over mainstream success.

Look at "Is This the Life?", easily the most mainstream song they've released, yet right at the very end they still had to stick that little weird bit in at the end of the solo.

To Tim, writing completely normal music just seemed to be unacceptable, for whatever reason. I absolutely love him for it.
