Thrash acts like Slayer and Metallica have more in common with punk and hardcore and are not real metal.

But thrash has more in common with actual metal. A lot more of the same lyrical content at least. Slayer's early sound was practically Motorhead on steroids too.

It's because most of those bands are influenced by Discharge, amongst other bands.

Absolute penis. Decent metal died in the early-90s. It's everything that is pseudo-dogshit.

Thrash isnโ€™t metal. Misfits essentially created the genre, but no one dares calls them metal despite their aesthetic.
Metallica has more in common with misfits than sabbath. I will admit Metallica eventually later became metal when they stopped playing so fast and scream every lyric

I don't think it's controversial to view thrash metal as a fusion of hardcore punk and heavy metal but not considering it metal? I'll need to know what you think of the defining characteristics of metal.

They dont sound metal at all. Im tired of this meme. Its hardcore punk that happens to use riffs, stop trying to rewrite history.

Wrong.
They have more in common with heavy metal than hardcore punk.
Slayer and Anthrax are the most "punk" thrash metal acts

Come on. The "base" sound of Slayer IS Motorhead. And that is as pure metal as it gets, besides Priest or something. Slayer simply got better and grew over time. They didn't exactly change into anything else though. it was always this.
