All late 70s and 80s hard rock and metal was cringe af. ACDC, Kiss, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses etc, all dogshit. Limp wristed faggotry that doesnโ€™t even rock, musically and rhythmically reduced to the simplest forms, awful screamy howling vocals, soulless twiddling guitar solos. It only appeals to the most simple minded of people who got filtered by the more ambitious rock of the 60s and early 70s, and the eventual and long overdue development of new rock genres and the resurgence of psychedelia in the 90s

AC/DC is unironically better than The Smiths.

I can smell Morrissey's breath when I hear him sing. His lyrics are what happens when a British guy tricks himself into thinking he's witty by default by virtue of his Britishness--so, we get lots of awkward Oscar Wilde-imitating dryness and single-entendres that make AC/DC seem Shakespearean in comparison. Funny how Smiths fans tend to look down on AC/DC and that ilk as disposable macho stadium rock when half of The Smiths' songs seem to be about how Morrissey thinks someone owes him sex. I guess that sentiment somehow becomes less demeaning and troublesome when mixed with a bit of gender confusion and then moaned effeminately like Kermit the Frog trying to pry his balls out of a vice.

Kids, once you get past the surface image, not only is there more intelligence in an AC/DC album, there's more sensitivity too. The Smiths' wit and sensitivity isn't real, it's a fashion statement, and like all fashion it's BS.

The industry is a big part of it but there was a perception at that time even with smaller bands, you could tell that being too 'rock' was something looked down upon. It also created this split where you were either playing outright metal or you were this other not very rocky 'rock' music. Like it had to be all or nothing.

Whatever has caused that has also happened in other genres, which is probably why there's 10,000 meme genres made up all the time now.

They aren't better because they are smarter. When you listen to Lemmy sing about breaking shit, drinking whiskey and fucking groupies, you know there's a genuineness to it that the prep school AC/DC boys don't have.

Even disregarding that, Motorhead had better riffs, better production, and yes, playing faster in this case is better. If you're going to call yourself the best rock band in the world, you can't every song be a 90 BPM dirge like Highway to Hell. Take some lessons from Overkill.

Pretty spot on opinions.

AC/DC in general does suck as a whole, but they have a couple fluke good songs.
Kiss is complete dogshit.
Aerosmith is bland and boring. Not bad, just really boring, which in a way is just as bad.
Bon Jovi has a handful of really good songs, but again ultimately forgettable.
Guns n Roses milked an entire career out of 3 slightly above average songs on their debut album. Garbage band.

The only one I disagree with is Iron Maiden. I think they fully deserve selling out stadiums. They are unbelievable showmen and put 120% into what they do (at least used to). They also for the most part refuse to play greatest hits shows and force the audience to listen to their new 80 minute album in its entirety, which is kind of hilarious and based.

Maiden were never or rarely a song band though they always made musical wallpaper. Listen to the entirety of Piece of Mind and you can't remember one lyric or guitar line.

i feel that's why they get away with not being a greatest hits band, they didn't have too many memorable songs except on TNOTB

Unfair they had about six great songs.

>Dream On
>Spaced
>SOS Too Bad
>Walk This Way
>Last Child
>Think About It (which is a cover but meh)

I agree that they have a lot of songs that are just cut and paste with the formula
>galloping beat and bassline
>fast guitar riff
>lyrics about some obscure WWI battle

But maybe it's just my Maiden bias, but I feel they have a lot of high concept original songs. When they actually try, which is usually a couple times on each album, they produce some really great songs.
Even their pivot to proggy 10+ minute songs in the last couple years shows they want to keep pushing and changing (despite age and time catching up with them).

Dream On is way too good to be an Aerosmith song. That's like some sell your soul at the crossroads type shit.

A lot of people hate Think About It for some reason and the band never played it live after 1985 or so but it's way faster and rawer than the sluggish Yardbirds original.

technically AC/DC had two different singers and their songs were variably written by Bon Scott, the Young brothers, and Brian Johnson so there could be more songwriting variation there while Motorhead was just Lemmy+hired helpmates so everything was always going to be the same.

Yeah, I know, I just think it's funny that AC/DC overtime got flak, usually by hipster faggot critics, for "only writing the same three songs" whereas Motorhead are just as guilty, if not more so, of doing the same thing. And in Motorhead's case the self-plagiarism is way more obvious, probably because as you said, it's Lemmy driving the band whereas AC/DC it's at least a handful of guys at the helm, so that can at least vary up the samey songwriting.

>KISS
self-titled
Hotter Than Hell
Destroyer
Love Gun
Creatures of The Night
Alive I & II
>Aerosmith
Every 70s record minus Nights in the Ruts
Permanent Vacation
Pump
Big Ones (for the good singles not on PV/Pump)
>Bon Jovi
I really only listen to Crossroads, but Slippery and New Jersey ain't bad. Def more of a singles band.
>Gun N Roses
Appetite
Use Your Illusion I & II (bloated, but good overall)
GnR Lies
>AC/DC
Every 70s record
Back in Black
For Those About To Rock
Razor's Edge
Runaway Train (late stage classic track ino)

And with Maiden pretty much every record is worth having. Almost every mentioned 70s / 80s band has a lot of great records that low t zoomers can't comprehend. Bluesy hard rock is top tier.

I just went to see them live and for their age they were phenomenal. The fact that Angus was still able to do a 20 minute version of Let There Be Rock while running around the stage, up stairs, fall over (while still playing), and keep in tune and sound great was legit amazing.

it really is. a lot of people realise how good some of the new stuff is too once hearing it live.
Death of the Celts went hard and Hell on Earth went extra fucking hard. i mean, i already liked these songs but they're so much better live.
