I have to admit, I enjoy a good melon roast as much as the next guy. I used to like him, but he's become increasingly insufferable and uninteresting over the years, so I pretty much never watch him now. I wasn't around here during the very first years, but it's understandable that people generally feel disillusioned or betrayed. I guess you've gotta move on at some point though.

There is a fascination though, beyond our own version of celebrity gossip. He's a cautionary tale for our own lives. Part of why so many of us dislike him is that we see how spineless and inauthentic he became. I see in him a bittersweet fate of turning a passion for music into a grind, and I see the lack of dignity in pandering and infantilizing yourself to cope with the realities of aging and the usually inevitable fade into irrelevancy.

And I ultimately see in him, a man I would not want to become. The money must be nice though. He clearly wouldn't care about my opinion, and it's not like he's harmed anybody, so I wish him the best in life.

That's a very good post, the sad reality of life is that apprecation for music and especially new music greatly diminishes with age. If you don't accept that eventually you'll consider consider it as background sound and relisten to the same favorites all the time in your family car, you'll force yourself to listen to it and as you say it becomes a grind. Like reading a book where you're more concerned about the number of pages remaining than the content of it.
