I genuinely dont understand how people are blown away by this record much less Radiohead in general. The singer sounds like hes always going to fall asleep mid song, its very boring electronic "experimentation", the song writing is completely flat. It feels like an aborted and ignored child of This Heat, a far far far far far better band and even Wonky Eye has admitted he listened to them with him playing Not Waving on a Radio Session.

you had to be there, kurt cobain was dead, the music critic needed a new champion, also we lived in a world where limp bizket and britney spears ruled the charts. then you have radiohead.
Imagine a fred durst world and then you have like thom dancing like a spastic on SNL while yelling "ice age coming ice age coming"

I personally prefer Muse, but Kid A is a good album, Radiohead has better ones, but how can you listen to it, or The Bends, and think they weren't a good band ?, karma police, arrest this man!

I mean if the critics wanted a new champion, The Shadow Ring is way better, favorite band of the 90s, Kid A has nothing on Lighthouse.
>>127073823
>>127073874
The Bends is alright, I would say Hail to the Thief is probably my favorite Radiohead album and its about a 6 or a 7 for me.
>>127073891
yeah, its boring, how am I seething, I feel almost nothing from it and I think for instance This Heat, but other bands in that vein such as The Shadow Ring, Durruti Column, etc are way better. Fuck, late Talk Talk if we are talking popular music is way better as well.

Radiohead is one of my favorite artists and I even like The Smile but yeah I don't really gaf about Kid A.
EIIRP, the title track and Motion Picture Soundtrack are masterpieces but the rest of the album is a struggle to get through desu.

You are correct.
Radiohead is pretentious trash.
The kind of music for people who think a piece of wood with shit on it at an art expo is actually deep and artistic.

If you want calm rock that is actually musical and has character, listen to Pink Floyd. Good lyrics, great guitar playing, arrangements and timeless production.

Yeah, Roger Waters doesn't have an ego while telling other artists where they can and can't play and falsely calling them zionists for playing and making money in Israel.

i'm not a huge Radiohead fan but i wouldn't go that far, their music still has melody, it's not avant-garde at all, and is still musical in general, it's just electronic pop, whether it's boring or not, if anything what you describe is more comparable to Death Grips.

Roger Waters should cease touring in America, considering the American government is Israel's biggest supporter and financier. Why won't he do that? Would certainly be more impactful than saying you won't play any shows in some place you weren't going to play a meaningful amount anyways.

Kid A and Radiohead in general is Nirvana of experimental prog, pop'y and easy to listen to while still being somewhat decent. "This heat" in this regard is incoherent autistic screeching demo bits which taped together into a single in comparison. Yeah it's cool and experimental and probably hella edgy since they are the "og's", but shit like this has walked so someone like Radiohead could run.

>Radiohead is widely regarded as one of the most influential and critically acclaimed bands of the modern era
>Nirvana's rating is complex. They are undeniably a highly influential and popular band with significant cultural impact.
Nigha, no one gives about your edge sperg trips for basement synth bands.
They are practically household names with multiple platinum albums. Nirvana being in line of band you can count on fingers that literally have NO bad song whatsoever in any of the albums, even subjectively it's a high bar to beat. You can take any of their single song from any album and it's be as good as overall a whole album combined from any other bum ass band. Wouldn't say so for Radiohead but their tracklist are also very strong.

Again, pop as plain as it comes but in the sea of infinite trash some peace and comfort if worth a fortune. What is pop anyways... music that is easy and pleasant to listen to? aka... good music.. whops, should've not said that...

Floyd = Piper at the Gates of Dawn, The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon, that's about it for good albums. Same as Radiohead, 3 great albums, then a bunch of wankery with a few good songs in between.

You completely missed the point he was making. Even if you personally feel as if they suck and are lame and don't do it for you, as far as what is mainstream is concerned, they take up that space as being "the goats" since they are accessible enough to be able to appeal to a wide audience while still having that it factor that draws from something more experimental and niche. Even if there are better, more obscure, deeper cuts, that would make Radiohead look like a 3rd grader making a macaroni portrait for their mom or dad, Radiohead are as good as it gets without getting too deep into the genres they borrow or are influenced from. Sort of like how Nirvana were an underground punk band from Seattle and drew from that sound but brought it to the masses in a safe, edgy, rebellious kind of way without being too edgy or rebellious, they still had musical chops and people love them, even to this day

Could have waited a little bit until 2000 and then Animal Collective could have been our new champion, four based American kids from Baltimore.
Instead we were impatient and crowned the whiny Israel-supporting Britbongs from trust fund art school as our kings.
