I love old jazz, specifically the inkspots and some earlier nat king cole, but really most pre 1950, (see the 1947 version of Blue and Sentimental). Something about the recording process not yet reaching "high fidelity" until later in the 50's and 60's makes it have this magical, time capsule feel. And they're played beautifully. Does /mu fuck with really old jazz?

I once found a bunch of old shellac pressings from the 1930's-1950's outside my apartment. It had a pressing of Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker with Strings.

This was among what I found. Shame I had to let it go.

I don't really care for swing, big band or trad shit

theres plenty of recordings even from the 50s where recording quality is a real issue. the playing has to be really fucking good to completely overlook that. also they have to limit themselves to much shorter songs when you would like to hear them stretch out a bit

ive heard like 10 different recordings of this song and this is by far the one with the best playing on it, its from 1937 but the violin solo got directly quoted in this performance that was quite popular just 4 years ago https://youtu.be/984ksjle4YA
