I feel like the clout this album enjoys with art rock and avant-garde audiences is undeserved. Only Crystal Ship, End of the Night, Alabama Song and of course The End sound like they're doing something atypical, the rest is just generic 60s blues rock slop

the Doors only wrote a few songs and the rest are cover versions.
they are LITERALLY a pub band who got lucky:

>Back Door Man
>Alabama Song (Whisky Bar)
>Who Do You Love?
>Crawlin' King Snake
>Gloria
>The Little Red Rooster

their most famous covers, but there ae a dozen more.
you Doors fags need to learn your blues history

in another reality, Ray, robby and john change their name and kept going as an instrumental trio, while ray manzarek became a full time producer. and stayed away from the morrison mythmaking bullshit

If Iggy Pop had replaced Morrison and maintained Morrison's energy without the antics we would be listening to their music from a space colony on Mars

>they are LITERALLY a pub band who got lucky:
Jim Morrison really couldnt sing at first. They made a demo tape in 1965 which sucked. They LITERALLY developed their craft by playing in bars and created their sound there. Many of the early Doors songs like Moonlight Drive were written by Jim's gay lover Dennis Jakob who he was living with in Venice Beach while recording this demo (no, he was not sleeping on the roof, this is a CIA disinformation story).

You'll notice that Jim could not really sing that well, he taught himself to sing well by sheer determination.

if you bothered to do research you would know that the Doors worked at a hole in the wall bar called the London Fog on the sunset strip, just a block down from the Whiskey. They were actually laughed at by the crowd that would happen to be in that bar. Jim knew what he wanted to sound like, he worked very hard to become what he envisioned himself being in his mind. The fact that he was in a band with well trained musicians meant that there music could grow and evolve into what they thought it should be rather be stuck in just another pop band.

The CIA did indeed cover up Jim's past, no one wants to admit what he was like before the Doors finally broke.

The key words are "change their name and remain instrumental".
