i miss when kozelek actually tried
>>127082466 (OP)i miss when he told war on drugs to suck his cock
Does he get worse? I haven't heard anything past Ghosts, but I love RHP
>>127082655kozelek in the 2010s switched to a more spoken word style with minimal instrumentation and hasn't really budged. i'd still say check out benji even if it started it. fuck, it was essential /mu/core at some point, everyone should've listened to that one at least
>>127082655RHP and Ghosts of the Great Highway all have a full band, and Kozelek is constantly mixing things up with different styles of play
almost everything he's done for the last 20 years has been like anon describes
>>127082681it's nice but holy shit is it samey
one of the exceptions is a record he did with jimmy lavelle from the album leaf that has more of an electronic headphones-y sound but he still sings like he does on all his other post-ghosts shit
>>127082655He peaked here

I enjoy the Jesu collab album a lot, never see anyone talk about it though
Can anyone recc anything post Weed Whacker that he's done that's been worth a shit? Once it became obvious that wasn't one or two "experimental" album and he was really going to keep making that shit I completely checked out.
>>127082466 (OP)Just found out this old fat fuck put out a new album this year gonna give it a listen and let you know how it is
>>127085812in the last ten years he's released 16 albums
His new style produced these classics albums, really great stuff with a good mix of the new diary-entry style but still good songwriting, catchy melodies, good guitar/synth work, etc.
Among the Leaves (2012)
Perils from the Sea (2013)
Mark Kozelek & Desertshore (2013)
Benji (2014)
Universal Themes (2015)
Jesu/Sun Kil Moon (2016)
Common as Light and Love Are Red Valleys of Blood (2017)
Then starting with his horrible collab album with Sean Yeaton, his shit started taking a major nosedive
Yellow Kitchen (2017) (with Sean Yeaton)
30 Seconds to the Decline of Planet Earth
(2017)
Mark Kozelek with Ben Boye and Jim White (2017) (with Ben Boye and Jim White)
This Is My Dinner (2018)
Mark Kozelek (2018)
Joey Always Smiled (2019)
I Also Want to Die in New Orleans (2019)
Mark Kozelek with Ben Boye and Jim White 2 (2020)
All the Best, Isaac Hayes (2020)
Welcome to Sparks, Nevada (2020)
Lunch in the Park (2021)
Quiet Beach House Nights (2023)
All the Artists (2025)
There's a few decent tracks on some of these albums (the self-titled and Joey Always Smiled have a few) but even then their way too fucking long. Occasionally there's amusing passages that make you chuckle but not something you really need to listen to more than once.
I don't know if he'll ever make a good album again, I thought post-cancellation he might switch things up but he got even more dry, long winded and doesn't even address the allegations head on which makes for a weird elephant in room on each album.
>>127085954the stories in all the best isaac hayes are funny
This Is My Dinner is massively underrated and lumping it together with all of his post Benji works is doing it an incredible injustice.
