The similarities between the two are usually overstated but you just sound gullible if you think academic fart-sniffing is all they have in common. Third stream has been around for over a century, jazz and classical musicians have been exploring their own intersections decades before either were associated with institutionalized conservatories (Stravinsky loved Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon loved Mussorgsky and Debussy, etc.).
