The Dead were never "sexy". Were there occasionally hot naked hippie chicks at their shows? Yes but overall it wasn't like a rave scene where people explicitly go there to try and fuck. Most non-heads who came to the lot were there to score hard to find psychedelics or other drugs

Get help. You probably barely listened and then make a sweeping judgement on all hundreds of millions of random people over it. To your credit, it doesn't even seem like you're partisan. You said every 4 years, so I assume you just hate everyone and everything. It's just unhinged that a random Grateful Dead thread sparked this.

once pissed off a good friend who was also a Dead fan when he put a Dead tape in his car stereo. I said to him “why does the Grateful Dead always play in the same key ?” Hurt, he replied “they DO NOT always play in the same key !” “Ok” I replied “how come everything they play sounds as if it’s played in the same key ?” Angry, he pulled the tape out of the player. We continued our journey in silence.

Deadheads are addicted to the feeling of elation
It is the mood of every single one of their songs. Maybe althea is slightly more bluesy
Every song, when performed live, follows the same trajectory

Deadheads go to shows, wear colorful outfits, smoke weed or eat mushrooms or anything similar, and dance repetitively for up to four hours to conjure those feelings of "elation", a feeling which nominally only lasts moments. Deadheads greedily, gluttonously, hedonistically prolong these feelings, and delay reality through their use of drugs, and forced, brainwashed familial group-think. They tell each other they are part of a community. And they are. But you take away the drugs and it would likely cease to exist. I'm not saying they're all drug addicts. But this brand of "peace and love" is endemic to chronic tokers. They are all love and freedom and peace and chill until they can't have their magic flower. Then they become irate, selfish, cynical.

I really don't mind the music. It's just monotonous in a way that so clearly is to facilitate a sort of hypnosis.

Truly. It is EDM for boomers.

Dead shows are one of the few concerts where I can actually stand the audience. I always get a good vibe from the people there when I see Dead & Co. or any of those bands. When it's a /mu/core band, there's always a palpable feeling of discontent in the air. Dead shows are a nice break from that.

Not inaccurate but most avid fans of many genres are seeking elation, or excitement, or the aggression from hardcore genres. It's all just defined by the character of the person. I'd try and say progressive and jazz there's s more introspective intelligent quality but it's probably just another twist on the dopamine search

I don’t even consider them a real band. They’re a brand marketing experiment that provides an experience like amusement parks. They have two listenable, focused studio albums in Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty. Everything after that is an excuse to play some idiotic song for 12 minutes on one of their hundreds of live albums. Many have already said it here but it’s totally a drug culture thing and I’m guessing 85% of people who go to their shows only do so because of the association with psychedelics.

I saw Dead and Co a couple years ago, never got into them myself or really “get it” but I’ve never given them a deep dive or anything. The whole show I had to be given indications the song was over by people clapping, after about 10 minutes of what sounded like the same thing over and over I’d usually tune out and come to find they were doing that still for another 20 minutes. Anyway shakedown street was the most disgusting thing I’d ever seen, kids obviously being coerced into living a “hippie” lifestyle which I’m sure means they are now on the street or overdosed on drugs. One obvious example was an open hatchback with a very handsome blonde boy playing guitar amateurishly and a beautiful blonde girl next to him which is innocent enough, but hanging out in the front seat was a much older hippie man so it made it seem like they were being guided into living a completely meaningless life by an old pervert. Lots of things like that, dudes walking around just openly selling drugs and there were kids there and shit too, just none of it seemed like it was a good way to live and anyone under the age of 25 had been brainwashed essentially.

It's because of the piano. It is really hard to retune, although even that is possible. But then again there's not really a point to do that besides to fuck with people that want to play along with the recording. It's much easier to just keep standard 440 tuning

If you listen to certain beatles recordings, songs which were either sped up or slowed down on tapes, they can tend to hover between keys. "Lovely Rita" IIRC lies somewhere between E-Flat major and E major. You can also hear this effect on some of those metallica songs off ride the lightning, I always have to retune shit to play along.

But really it's a moot point since those songs are still using a twelve-tone scale. Bizarre eastern traditions employ true microtonality; it sounds pretty horrible.

What's more, no one has ever convincingly backed up the theory that the Grateful Dead were members of the CIA and I'm beginning to think that it's a myth that survives from people reading it, believing it fully without question because of their preexisting hatred for them, and telling other people about it.

How about Bertha, Friend of The Devil, and Cumberland Blues, to name but three songs that start off in the key of G?

Unless I'm greatly mistaken, and going deaf, I believe Candyman starts out in the key of C.

No.
It's actually because they're blacklisted from radio airplay.
Also, yiu're quite wring.
Many "Classic. Rock" Stations DO play The Grateful Dead, even though it's usually Casey Jones, Truckin' Friend of The Devil, or Touch of Grey. You almost never get to hear the GOOD stuff. (Although concerts have been broadcast live as they happen)

That's nothing.
I remember the one time I saw JGB, and half the audience were stage diving to Late For Supper.

Yeah, I read what you said you sanctimonious twat.
I'm not illiterate.
My reading comprehension is just fine.
You claim to acknowledge that you understand that not all "Dead Heads" take drug, but most of your screed seems to suggest that the community wouldn't exist without them.
I find this point of view very shallow, narrow, and biased, if not outright prejudicial, and stereotypical.

The community would exist, even without the drugs.
>Or have you never heard of The Warf Rats?
