I'd make a big list, but let me condense it to a few of my favorite songs from this era:

Michael Sembello's Maniac: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GCNUeTFSbA

Push it to the Limit from Scarface: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrlKfUKC7Vk

Benjamin Orr's Stay the Night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ySLmwsfP4Q

George Michael's Careless Whisper: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izGwDsrQ1eQ

On the rock side, but Magnum is underrated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huUKdGxS4oQ

This list is pretty normie as far as 80s go, but that's what makes 80s decade so great; even the most mainstream sound amazing.

I'm currently listening to Japanese city pop just because it's trending. It's pretty neat and groovy, but the Internet is making me feel like it's the only 80s pop genre Japan made. I'd like to know if there is any 80s Japanese music that isn't city pop.

I should specify I mean 80s Japanese pop that isn't city pop. I know jazz-fusion is a huge thing there.

I saw him open for one of those 80s package tours one month ago with Rick Springfield, John Waite and Wang Chung. He was great for a couple years when he was in his prime but man he really didn’t take care of his voice at all. It didn’t even sound like him.

I bought this on cassette for a buck and listened to the whole album and it was actually pretty amazing. What’s funny is Richard Marx was considered a girl pop rock artist back in the 80s. Nowhere near the teeth of Ozzy, Aerosmith, Judas Priest but I’d give anything to have just one mainstream pop rock dude like Richard Marx on the radio today
