Starting to realize that this is their second best album. Some of the hardest moments and some of their most melodic sounds. Chino's best lyrics.

I think it's the best, it's the most shoegaze of their albums, which is ironic because it's the least popular. They kept a bit of the experimentation of White Pony but with the impact of Around the Fur.

Hot take: this is their first great album. Gets a bit dodgy in the back half but the entire run up through When Girls Telephone Boys is impeccable. Next few albums continued the upward trajectory but this one was a step up in its own right.

Their best album is koi no yokan, my favorite is around the fur.
The title track for around the fur is imo the hardest, coolest and rawest song in all of metal, I find it’s an often overlooked goat tier track

This is my favorite Deftones album, even if White Pony is objectively their best album and Koi no Yokan is probably their best without Chi
Something about the pervasive melancholy, the lazy riff writing, the first appearance of the 7th string, it all comes together to make the quintessential moody Deftones sound
