playing the album at people who have read the book but don't know about the album is a treat, if you like giving people the willies.

Is the album as insufferable as the book?

but have you ever tried listening to the soundtrack to a movie that's based off of a book while you're reading said book?

Merritt wrote 69 Love Songs and Handler wrote The Bad Beginning at roughly the same time and they were kind of each other's muses during the process. Both works make a lot of sense being the way they are when you consider that.

No (i am the anon you're replying to)
the album is mostly normal and isn't the sort of repetitive literal spiral. Nor does the album eject itself from your CD player and force you to push it back in, just to make you remember that you are consuming a piece of media, not experiencing the thing directly.

All of the above is stuff I liked house of leaves for but I am entirely on board with it also being pretentious and insufferable. It's one of those things.
