Maybe Blondie with Hanging on the Telephone. Most people don't even know it's a cover. They just heard some obscure band on a compilation and were like yeah that one sounds good let's rerecord it and make it 10 times better. Rip The Nerves

I love their two main albums and I personally choose to remember them. Even if it is offputting that the lead singer believed in smelling like shit all the time and died of a treatable form of cancer because she thought she could heal with magic woo shit.

My favorite Slits anecdote is that Bob Marley was going to shout them out on Punky Reggae Party without having heard them until someone informed him that they were women and he changed his mind because punk rock was no place for women.
