I've never met a punk who didn't like the Clash. This hatred must be a burger thing.

If the Clash had been around in the sizzling summer of 1992 I'm fairly certain that Joe Strummer would have been brutally raped by a pack of young black gentlemen.

Holy cow - youve got to be kidding. This band was without doubt the most spineless and lamest of 'punk' acts. They sound exactly like they were - pub-rock Bandwagon jumpers. The debut was a tinny, cowardly super-fake sack of tripe - this album was where they tried to get all arty and break away from the 'punk' label (which they never were in the first place) and thus is a mish-mash of styles including pure pop, rock and roll, doo-wop, reggae and god knows what else. Nice idea, but the clash were just too talentless to pull it off. I saw this band way back in late 76 and thought then what a bunch of fake poseurs they were - Joe strummer the upper middle class voice of the working class! what a laugh. This band were so fake its just unbelivable that anyone bought into it at all. But then again, people read the sun newspaper, vote for politicians, watch eastenders, eat in mcdonalds etc. Talk about the great rock and roll swindle - this is it kids!

That's 'cause they make pop music, of course they will outsell non-mainstream artists. Green Day sold more than 75 million albums. If you want to argue that makes them more punk rock than the Clash go for it. You can talk shit about punks all you want but at least they value their local scenes and don't like sellouts.

I find it hard to believe most punks in 2025 wouldn't be praising the clash's london calling as a milestone in punk.
The album does get bloated by the last 5 songs, there are some forgettable songs in the 3rd and 4th side but overall it is an interesting album and strong punk album

Why is it not punk? Is it because it doesn't sound like the ramones? Or what disqualifies it from being punk?
T. Not taking this seriously, honest question.

No one was arguing this, you fucking retard. Someone said no one likes the Clash, that's it. It's obviously bollocks.

Holy fuck...

Joe Strummer was a businessman. Punk was his business. That's still a pretty good album, tho

It's good but there's nothing punk about it. Their first album is a bit more punk, but if you want real punk from that era, listen to The Damned.

Most overrated album ever. People only hold it in high esteem because the song that bookend it are somewhat decent. Everything in between is just awful rockabilly shite.

the Diplomat's Son only jumped on the punk bandwagon to ride the wave, and became sick of it by Give Em Enough Rope. he was always a rock and roll fan foremost.

Niche communities in music always have a stick up their ass about good songwriting. It has to be a little shitty for them to like it and feel like they're not like the other girls. See metal, goth, and industrial

The Clash? More like The Cringe, they were completely mogged by all their contemporaries and one gets the sense that "you had to be there" when listening to them now
