I love new wave so much I can’t comprehend why anyone else wouldn’t. New Wave haters: give me your best argument to why it sucks.

New Wave is a useless term. Those albums don't sound alike.

I would argue that by definition boy bands can’t really be weird because their whole purpose is to appeal to a demographic that would be turned off if they were behaving too weirdly. The only new wave groups that could really be categorized as boy bands were Duran Duran and Wham! Neither of which were that weird by 80s standards.

The Cure are not New Wave. Neither are The Jam, The Clash or Madness.

Either Roxanne by The Police or Just What I Needed by The Cars. It would be Shake Some Action by The Flamin’ Groovies if anyone had actually listened to it.

I don't care much for new wave because it's like post-punk's happier cousin, and I like post-punk when it's sad. Also, I wouldn't call Disintegration new wave. Head on the Door and Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, absolutely. Disintegration's a conscious throwback to the stylings of Seventeen Seconds and Faith, which is part of why it's way better than the albums I just mentioned.

Don’t You (Forget About Me). I like mid 80s new wave more than late 70s/early 80s new wave. I’m a contrarian

New Wave is what is found in the >Wave crates in musty old record shops up to the mid 90s. In that respect, the intro collage is correct.
New Wave had skinny ties in the beginning.
New Wave is anti 70s bloat, but had become rather bloated itself by the mid 80s.
Only makes sense to talk of New Wave up to '84.
New Wave was the pub rock/power pop after the punk assault of 76/77 that could be safely marketed to the mass market, without the punk attitude that is OR which displayed an artsy pose OR the stuff that had synths.
