It gets my vote for their best album.

It's my personal favorite of theirs.

But objectively their best is Paranoid. No other metal album is beginning-to-end all-time classics of the genre. Literally every single song is a staple of the genre and has been covered countless times.

And while this is only tangentially related, I'll post it here because it's easier than starting a new thread: Master of Reality is the Sabbath album with the worst influence. There are SO MANY shitty bands that ripped it off.

It has their fullest range musically. No metal album before... I'm tempted to say maybe as late as the 90s... ever showed off how much could be done in the genre.

The lyrics on Spiral Architect are amazing. Butler doesn't get his due, and he made a good team with Ozzy. Of course, Iommi was the riffmaster. Amazing band.

it's by far the most underrated album they did, probably because the title and album cover art were forgettable compared to the other albums, but Wheels of Confusion, Changes, Supernaut, and Snowblind are all absolutely amazing tracks and probably some of the best vocal work Ozzy ever did
