what are the thoughts on the geezer?
Little known fact: Geezer Butler, not Tony Iommi, came up with the riff on the song "Black Sabbath".
fantastic bass player. perhaps underrated even. most doom/stoner stuff inspired by sabbath don't have bass nearly as creative as geezer.
>>127137546 (OP)>>127137594Wasn't he the main songwriter of Black Sabbath?
>>127137546 (OP)him, brian wilson, and roger waters helped shape my own bass playing
>>127137897Main lyricist. He's credited as co-writing most of their songs. Hugely important part of the band.
>>127137934same. i add chris squire as well. Those are the pinnacle of all rock/progressive bass players for me
I'll just say it: Sabbath had the overall best sounding rhythm section in metal. I'm not talking about technical anything, just about who was the best in terms of composition and feeling. Think of that ominous, creepy pounding drum and bass in the song Black Sabbath. Henry Rollins once said it sounded like someone getting knocked down in a fight and then slowly getting back up and you know that's someone's about to get fucked up.
>>127137546 (OP)Is there a bigger Villa fan on the planet?
>>127137546 (OP)Fantastic MELODIC bass player.
Just listen to him on the verse of this shit, he's flying.

Great bassist. Wouldn't have been Sabbath without him
>>127138369Yep, Neil Murray's a great bass player himself but he was completely right when he said that Geezer is indisputably THE Sabbath bassist.
>>127138194he comes from old-stock REAL Brits. Probably has lineage going back 1500 years in Britain. His ancestors were most likely LITERAL butlers
>>127137546 (OP)Geezer and Bill Ward are the best rhythm section in rock history, bar none
>>127137546 (OP)Absolute fucking genius -a word that gets tossed around too much these days-
The bass in die young is pure kino
The Butler who is also a Bass player....
>>127137546 (OP)Awesome human being, I hope to meet him and tony someday before they kick the bucket
>>127137594Is that true? I believe he showed him the tritone, but I thought Iommi still came up with the riff.
>>127137897Iommi is mostly responsible for the music. But Sabbath has some really good lyrics. Underrated.
>>127137594>>127139821Actually it was Gustav Holst

>>127139846That is what I meant. He played him Mars Bringer of Wars, which has the tritone in it.
>>127138244I've seen a few in the queues for a Balti and a piss that are definitely bigger.
>>127137546 (OP)Jeeves is a better name for a Butler than Geezer.
Dude rocks though.
I read his autobiography last year, great book.
>>127139836Just remember love is life
And hate is living death
Treat your life for what it's worth
And live for every breath
It would have been great if, in addition to being massively praised, he had been massively copied.
Melodic bass is very rare in metal.
DiGiorgio, Burton, McKagan, and the like are the exception.
Truly, the metal genre would be better if the bass wasn't limited to the octave of the guitar.
>>127137546 (OP)He has the same name as the bassist in Death's Leprocy
>>127142594Steve Harris, Neil Murray, Brad Bjork, Gene Simmons, Markus Grosskopf
Grey eminence of Black Sabbath. Ozzy and Tony get all the acolades but Geezer and Bill are the brain of the band. His lyrics and bass are goat
