Brian Wilson was by far a much more relevant and influent musician than Ozzy, yet Ozzy's death received more attention than Brian's just because he was a folklore figure to rock's history while Brian aestheticly speaking was just a guy from the sixties and a grandpa nowadays. It really makes you think.
>>127139013 (OP)I mean, hey they didn't give Connie Francis that much press either whaddya want? Just a nice pop singer who didn't really leave much of a legacy.

Wow
ozzy invented a whole fucking genre, i like brian but beach boys is an acquired taste
>>127139013 (OP)Everything “influential” about The Beach Boys was already done a few years prior by the Beatles.
>relevantRelevant to who? Your grandma?
Ozzy was featured on a Post Malone song. Zoomers don’t know shit about Brian Wilson.
No the entire reason OO is getting so much press is he became a huge reality TV star and expanded his audience beyond men to women as well.
Brian was an artist under the name Beach Boys, and people will know that name but not entirely everyone in it.
Ozzy was a solo artist, everyone knows him as himself.
If the other Sabbath guys died they would get 1/20th the coverage these two got
Pet Sounds is the most dated sounding album of the entire 60s. The Rolling Stones, the Zombies, Jefferson Airplane, Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the 13th Floor Elevators, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, etc. are all infinitely more listenable today.
>>127139070>>creating a whole new genre You're describing Brian, not Ozzy. By the way, Ozzy didn't create a thing. It was all Tommy and Geezer who created the music and lyrics of Sabbath. Ozzy had a great voice and good vocal melodies line though, but nothing really special.
>>127139013 (OP)That's how always has been, frontman are attention whores and they always steal the spotlight from actual musicians
>>127139137>Pet Sounds is the most dated sounding album of the entire 60s.the most PETS DATED your MOM in the entire 60s, you faggot
the thing Sabbath's legacy has influenced everything down to the present day (unless it's Taylor Swift) whereas the Beach Boys were of their time in a lot of ways and didn't transcend it as much
>>127139123I was reading this story now. It's unreal kek.
>>127139137>Pet Sounds is the most dated sounding album of the entire 60sIt's too twee and naif, they couldn't escape that early 60s teen bubblegum aesthetic no matter how hard they tried
>>127139150It’s a product. None of the Beach Boys even played on that album. It was the Wrecking Crew. The actual Beach Boys were away touring when it was recorded.
>>127139225Wrecking Crew + Brian WAS the Beach Boys
you were kinda close, anon
Not true at all, Brian provided the Wrecking Crew with all the chord charts and notated song structures, he also worked closely with each musician individually. He would demonstrate the parts he envisioned by playing them on the piano, singing, or even using the musicians' own instruments. For string and horn arrangements, he typically sang the lines, much like he did for vocal harmonies. Guitar parts, such as those in “Sloop John B.,” were likely worked out by Brian at the piano. Also, Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson were actively involved alongside the wrecking crew playing some of their parts
>>127139392"Wrecking Crew"? more like "I'll Fill Your Ass With Goo"
>>127139013 (OP)part of being a musician is being a performer, and Ozzy was extremely entertaining in his personal life. i personally like Brian Wilson's music more than Ozzy Osbourne's (i do like both of them) but Ozzy was much more flamboyant and had a greater presence and staying power in pop culture because of it.
>>127139137it's the most timeless one because the 'old' sound aesthetic was entirely on purpose.
>>127139498Not to say Brian's life was as much if not even more fucked up than Ozzy's in some ways.
>>127139013 (OP)I like the Beach Boys, but Black Sabbath was the beginning of heavy metal which turned into my favorite genre Thrash. I saw the Beach Boys with my grandma before she died and it was great show.
blame that on Mike for not wanting to let 1961-65 go.
>>127139514Brian's life was super fucked up and interesting too, but not in a way that was "entertaining" to the average person like Ozzy's. it was more of a solitary thing, he wasn't on a reality show saying funny things with a mouth full of marbles.
>>127139511>>127139137the production was supposed to take you back to the old california. the stereo mix is incredibly polished and has no signs of being 60 years old. it might as well be a concept album of the 90s or 2000s.

You could say that his wife was more influential than he was. It was her, along with her father, who helped spread his music and image around the world. The same goes for Ozzyfest, which was a platform for metal music.

Ozzy had a tv show on MTV and his wife was on The View, among the most despised television shows ever.

These were two entirley different generes,
Not sure, but it's tough to imagine Brian would have looked so swuft if he dressed up like he was from the 60's.
Would like to add there is no hidden message, meaning or signicance to their deaths being as close as they were.
But ozzy had a tv show. His wife being on the view was weird. Brian didn't have a tv show, there's youtube. Imo they both could have lived longer. Who did the people love more and who "looked" cooler? no idea different people with different reasons.
Does it make you think? I wouldn't say anyone is thinking, because maybe music is dying faster than the listeners can hear it. Hope not. God, guide us all, Jesus Christ.

Brian inspired the Beatles and a bunch of hipsters to make indie albums which lead to pop and indie music of today being shit
Ozzy inspired boomers to make metal which inspired millennials to make emo and both are dead genres today
it's hard to say
Don't celebrate their deaths, celebrate their lives. We don't even know what exactly killed them. Brian's wife died suddenly, and - i can't tell you - that, and the back surgery, helped kill him. No idea what got Ozzy. It's ridiculous to compare the stature of these two. Minimal - if any influence up on one another if we're honest. Just saying, straight up. And it's ok to stfu and get the facts, sometimes. But the only people that really know them are their families. Please respect their privacy during this time.
Ozzy was one of those rare guys who stayed culturally relevant in some way his entire life which not too many in music can claim. Sinatra did, Dylan does maybe McCartney and Metallica as well but most guys have a period where they're cool and then stop being cool and are only remembered by boomers.

If Mike Love had started the Beach Boys, you'd get more music like Black Sabbath.
If Brian Wilson would have fully got his way, perhaps maybe there would have been a little less, Nikki Six, and CC Deville, and Marilyn Manson, and other such corny sleeze balls. Because you know, that's Walt Disney quality family material. GOD ONLY KNOWS. What you can say is - What happened, happened. The two genres greatly diverged. Just totally different orders. And it's ok to stfu every now and then. I'm sure Mike Love is a great composer with a good disposition with his management, staff and social media team, just like everyone else.

Two different marketing/ pr machines and two different marketing/ pr strategies.

Ozzy, the ultimate "FUCK OFF - now come to my concert" music.

I'm done. Go eat roadkill.
>>127146326I would even argue that for Chuck Berry if only because rock evolved so quickly that he became antiquated in a hurry and nobody who came up after the 60s covered his songs or cited him as an influence.
>>127139147>This music critic who believes that stupid Brian Eno quote about VU also believes similarly stupid things about the beach boysIf you want a quote it's from Hendrix when he said the beach boys sound like a barbershop quartet.
Anyway as someone else said ITT Ozzy and the rest of the band were still somewhat active in recent times whereas Brian was a recluse known for things he did in the 60s and not after that.
Sabbath created an entire genre and were trendsetters in music for most of the 70s.
The Beach Boys didn't have that kind of influence and tbqh in comparison they sound incredibly dated. I don't usually like calling things 'dated' either since it's an overused adjective but the beach boys really do sound like a product of the early 60s in a very obvious way.
If anything the big problem is Ozzy's sticky was only up for a few hours whereas Brian Wilson's was there for days even though it got 1/3rd of the replies...
