Which one of you memed me into this shit? You can have the best turntable and cartridge and it is still a slot machine how the album will sound, because there were no standards back then. You also told me it would get art hoes but it gives most girls the ick because it's old.
>even CDs sound better

You wouldn't understand if you didn't grow up with record players in your house and classrooms. It's real OG shit, not something you get into cause you think it will get you arte noir pussy.

I never payed more than 5 bucks for a vinyl, I had tapes,cd's and vinyl during my lifetime, CD is the best physical format, the rest is nostalgia and enjoying collecting things like you might like collecting cards or whatever

You collect vinyl for the album covers and to look cool, not for listening

They only sound good if it's played on a technics 1200 turntable and you need two of them and a pioneer mixer

Kinda sucks as a way to listen to music. I only collect vinyl because it forced me to listen and appreciate the album and not a part of one song that I would just skip to when i'm on spotify.

I have a pretty mid setup, but with some albums I have life changing 3d sound stages.

Thats now the fun part, what albums are going to be hidden audiophile presses.

Like I just got the first reissue of Ride the lightning and it's fucking amazing. Not quite as good sound separation as some others, but the best sounding metal record I've found so far.

The sound quality is there if you can afford it and want to dig.

This man. I got an average set up but grabbed early an early bathory release, under the sign of the black mark.

It was like I'd never heard the album before.

All the cd rips, spotify, remasters etc are all victims of the loudness wars. I didn't know there was actually a bass guitar on the original, now I do.

if they're in the hard cases and not the gay little sleeves, sure.
cds are mainly better because they're cheaper and enable you to rip the files

Vinyl is more affected by humidity, dust and heap, warping much more easily
It also literally self-destructs just by being played

the really thin records sound better because they accumulate less static electricity. the 180g memes are just dust magnets.

A tape played on a stable, home hifi deck with dolby NR of some kind sounds nice. Most premature conclusions about the fidelity of tapes are based on experiences with shitty portables and car stereo decks

I can just tell you what I got. I'm by no means an expert on hifi equipment.

I bought a Uturn orbit special (buy something that has a queue arm) with a 2m blue needle.
Have thst running through a Yamaha receiver that's part of my home theater setup and happened to have a phono jack.
And my speakers are svs towers.

It's good enough that I get good sound separation on most albums and I have a handful that sound absolutely amazing. I can't wait to eventually upgrade, but I'm not sure where the law of diminishing returns starts to take affect.

I would say if you already have a good receiver and speakers buy a Technics and the best needle that you can afford.

But I would be interested in what other people recommend.

A correctly mastered CD listened to at safe volume already exceeds the limits of human hearing.
