Well he was terrible
I watched the unedited version of the unplugged and he was so bad at doing vocal harmonies with Cobain on Pennyroyal tea, the latter just gave up and decided to do a solo rendition.

Also when he did that performance of Aneurysm with Kim Gordon, it was like he was hitting the guitar with a broom, a very careless style of playing

He got lucky to get picked probably for his goofy appearance.
