Why did no one tell me that Collin's solo work is this good?
Everything from Face Value to No Jacker Required is great and so is his drumming

I usually don't like the solo work of anyone who breaks from "the band" in this case Genesis, but both Collins and Gabriel are fine on their own

I like So a lot. There's something about Red Rain that I love a lot and I can't describe it. I never cared much for anything else he did though

Yeah So is his most successful album for a reason, but Intruder, No Self Control and I Don't Remember are some really great tracks from Melt

there is literally no reason you'd listen to him unless a Phil Collins fan knocked on your door to specifically tell you his music is good.

Not a Phil solo song but No Son of Mine is an incredibly depressing and dark song and I can't believe it got airplay. Gotta give it up to the, P-meister. He can get anything over.

We Can't Dance is a good record in general and I'm tired of pretending it's not. Driving the Last Spike is among the best songs Phil ever made.

It's good shit. I love how there's always equal parts radio friendly stuff then some out there songs for people who want a little more. I heard Home by the Sea the other day grocery shopping and it was such a weird thing to experience. Phil probably won't get the credit he deserves until he's dead which is unfortunate.

You realize this when it becomes obvious the hate was from A: Trey Parker being assmad Phil won an oscar for the Tarzan soundtrack and not his one joke Canada song from the South Park movie, and B: Oasis running their mouths about him just as the public got tired of Phil's music.

Now 20 years later, people are reevaluating Phil's music on account that he's the next big death people are expecting, while Oasis goes on a failed reunion tour and South Park runs on fumes after Trey's had as many failed marriages as Phil has.

>>127151983
Is that why Trey was so mad? I never had any idea. Very petty of him because his portrayal on the show didn't seem accurate from what I'd seen of him. He always seemed like a nice dorky kinda dude. There's a Live Aid documentary out and I liked the bits where they had Phil come in and he was really excited to play drums on it. He'd waited all day to contribute his part and everyone was gathered around like he was a drum god. It was pretty wholesome.

What's stupid is that they lost at the same oscars they crashed while crossdressing and under the influence of LSD. Sure, your song got nominated, most likely as a joke and as a way to pad out the nominations, but to actually seethe about it afterwards after you already didn't take the event seriously is kind of petty and gay.

Like no shit the old farts on the Academy aren't going to pick the song from the foul mouthed paper cut out movie. Just laugh it off that it even got nominated and that you crashed the event.

my favorite lore for Phil Collins is when he performed with Led Zeppelin at Live Aid and Robert Plant proceeded to blame him for the performance being awful instead of himself and Jimmy Page being wasted out of their minds

Anon, as funny as it would've been if that happened, they should've known the retirees on the Academy were not going to pick South Park over a fucking Disney movie back when Disney still had massive cultural relevance for families.

If they just laughed it off after crashing the show high off their asses, it would've been funny. Instead they became the joke by getting offended the established pop star composing for Disney won over a song in a film based on a cheap cartoon that had only been on the air for two years.

He's genuinely a great vocalist. Very heartfelt. Maybe not technically amazing but he always shines and elevates a song. I don't know enough about drumming to talk about his technical ability but drumming and singing sounds like it would be fucking exhausting. He has my respect.

My apologies for being an autist, but I just want to make this one point: those songs are fucking awesome and deserved the Oscar. Then to your main point that they ruined Phil Collins career through petty score-settling, might be, that was consistently their MO though wasnt it? I was personally never all that into their "funny" celebrity take-downs. The only two cases I cant help but laugh at are the Bennifer episode and the Rob Schneider one. All the other ones come off like some celeb pissed them off and now they're gonna use their soapbox to get revenge.
