No, it's just that Fantano gave it a 10.
For the same reason the new Clipse album got a couple threads on this board.

Why did this band get so big? You people know a lot about music. Way more than I do, at least. What am I not seeing here

Fellow litizen here, ill try to explain it to you...
Theres nothing to get, what you hear is what it actually is. If you dont like it just listen to something else.
/mu/tants like(d) this cause it way really edgy and extreme for early 2010s period, cause the dudes were crazy and thats what average 4channer gets off to. There was lots of mystique around the band, too. Also New york accent and street cred helps, too

Also when something gets popular and shilled in underground circles it kinda takes off and other people start to like it too, in case of DG to be part of edgy schizo underground musical movement.
I remember my ex friend group used to go crazy for DG, they would do drugs at the rooftop of a garage and blast DG, we even went to DG show

What part of "pretending to like shit music to seem cultured" don't you understand?
>visitor from /lit/
Okay let me put it in terms you might understand, imagine a person pretending he genuinely likes Joyce's Ulysses
Have you never heard of hipsters

And musically speaking, the production is kinda original and very raw, theres stuff that pretty much hasnt been done before sound- synthesis wise
Vocal delivery is also pretty different

Anon this doesn't work because people genuinely like Ulysses (I do). Also it really seems like people didn't pretend to like this band, they actively loved it. I'm trying to understand why people loved it

Okay, this makes sense. It does sound really different. Not super sure I've heard anything like it before, it's almost punk but it's too electronic-y for that. (Sorry, not sure what words to use here, I don't know much about music.)

>Is that not the case anymore? Why not?
Sometime after COVID they had a concert and the people who came to see them acted weird (as expected with this kind of music), like throwing lightsticks at the performers iirc.
Death Grips ended the concert early and people thought that they just chickened out.
And they also found out that Death Grips are not really schizo bums, but art kids who are basically nepo babies.
>why did you like it in 2013 or whenever
Listened to a couple of their songs. They have potential, but I don't like that kind of experimental rap.
>Why did this band get so big?
They correctly introduced industrial sound into rap.
If you wanna get them you need to first play Silent Hill 1. The soundtrack is not really melodic, for the most part. They were able to turn that into rap, at least vibewise.
They were paised also for the weird shit they were doing for their sound.

I like the part where he goes getgetgetgetgotgotgotgot and then a bunch of other really fast stuff and then there's a cool sample that kind of sounds like a police siren. I didn't care for what I tried to read of Ulysses. I like it when music is loud. I thought they used samples in cool ways on this album. I actually do enjoy his lyrics when they're more intelligible (Hacker has some really fun verses). Most people here got into them because they got hyped up big in hipster circles as this crazy mysterious dangerous group when in reality it was always just a few soft-spoken dudes making somewhat unconventional music and promoting it in low key word of mouth ways. As others in this thread have stated, they ended up with a lot of "ironic" fans who never really cared for the music beyond memes. The band went on essentially indefinite hiatus and their one tour since in 2023 was a shitshow that ended with them walking off stage early at the last show because the crowd was throwing shit at them.

Itโ€™s really loud and noisy while also having some catchy ass hooks, thatโ€™s pretty much it. Also the drumming is wild.

saying "there's no rapping" makes this entire post b8 and retarded you either need to listen to more music or read less books if you don't think the lyrics sound like rap.
>also
this is their worst album desu and the whole point of the band is that all their fans hate it at first and listen to it enough that it stops sounding abrasive and becomes catchy. for /lit/ comparison I'd say it's like pynchon where it's easy to be annoyed if you get mad at pseud references and absurdity but if you can gel with that it becomes a very entertaining pop experience that makes you reflect and consider art differently.
