Goth is timeless and in stasis for the most part, but still manages to be compelling and alluring, no matter how many years go by. Why do you suppose this is?

I had a roommate who I think was a goth girl when she was younger. She was several years older than me and obviously into me, which mean that she was needlessly rude to me all the time. I just never reacted to anything she said or did. Sometimes, I think as a result of my lack of a reaction to her shit, she would realize that she went too far and back off.

Literally because the name "goth" serves as an absolutely amazing catch all for anything or anyone that's into dark or fringe art. Things that aren't goth get called goth all the time because of the influence of gothic architecture and literature on the general population.
