There's a difference between that and an artist rather quickly making the absolute most sluggish and lifeless music imaginable. Listen to the following records:

This Old Dog did a good job at balancing his downtempo sound with his more upbeat spirit. Then he released Here Comes the Cowboy. Everything about that album seemed lazy. The song titles, the artwork, the music videos, and the tired musical style that was already explored on This Old Dog. Except this time it was bereft of the good songwriting. It's just extremely chilled out and soporific little ditties. Quite forgettable. That laziness has since somehow been dialed up even more. Ever since then I have refused to fully listen to his projects. He just doesn't care at all anymore, and not in a badass way. He's creatively rotting. This is what it sounds like when an artist completely runs out of steam.
