Why does rock music from the hipster era fill me with such disgust?

It was all soft wussy shit. Jack Antonoff had no problem going from indie rock to writing identical songs for Taylor Swift

In the 60s it was jaded middle class kids who felt oppressed by postwar consumerism/suburbia and rebelled. These Millenial guys are different; they embraced consumerism and conformity. It was something to be celebrated instead of struggled against.

black keys puzzle me, I kinda liked some of their stuff like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZa-EXC7ST4&list=RDDZa-EXC7ST4&start_radio=1

but then they release Brothers and it's the most boring unmemorable shit ever and it becomes a huge success

>the mentality
got too much attention at home and in school when young and are not motivated to prove themselves as great, they just want some more attention from anyone

>the music
their music knowledge is usually rooted in older rock, so they're limited by that. the older rock guys' music was rooted in blues, jazz, and classical which gives them great breadth and richness to draew on

>the process
is mid because the participation trophy era Millennial sad sack musicians have no discipline and are satisfied with their songs being "good enough" and don't push them to be great

>the lyrics
shit schooling results in low effort, whereas 1970's groups actually read poetry and Shakespeare in school instead of POC YA tripe

>the playing
some great players out there but if they are rooted in older rock and deficient in blues, jazz, and classical they'll always be have very limited creative reach

Brothers is a fine album and has a handful of songs that sounds literally exactly like this. Why are you fags on this board so fucking dramatic and need to have extreme opinions about every tiny little thing lol calm the fuck down

I actually hate Jack Antonoff so fucking much. He's unironically the only musician I have ever hated. He ruins everything he touches I have NO IDEA how people like his production it is so fucking soulless and dead and sterile and bland

I don't think anyone actually likes his production at least in the early 2010s it had the benefit of novelty but it doesn't even have that anymore.

why does /mu/ have so many people who hate Antonoff and Dan Nigro? clearly they wouldn't keep getting work if people didn't think they had talent.

I know I'm a faggot for this but I was a big fan of Lana del Rey, Lorde, and to a lesser extent Taylor Swift and he ruined ALL THREE of them one after the other, yet the albums were inexplicably critically acclaimed

It is one thing to just make bad music but he actively ruins other people's music.

Other rock guys like Bon Iver and Aaron Dressner can collaborate with pop musicians and have it not suck, I have no idea what his problem is and why the fuck they all agree to have him produce their stuff
