I didn't, Reason why is cause it takes the fun out of it. Everytime I learn something it makes everything logical and boring

also i want to add that you HAVE to learn the notes, the scales, and the intervals. You have to know what a 5th, a 9th, an 11th is. the only thing that is unnecesary is learning "why you should use X chord over Y", the circle of fifths, and all that jewish bullshit. but if you don't know how to tell your bandmates what key the song is in or what chord are you playing you're kinda screwed. you can come up with chords and not know their technical names but you should have enough knowledge to tell your bandmates "this chord is C B flat G# and F"

Once I learned the intervals and how chords and scales are made from a formula based on the intervals it was over. My music theory knowledge skyrocketed from there

Must be nice. My music teacher was some failed musician weirdo who just had monologues every class and didn't teach anything. He gave everyone good grades but it still sucked. Now as an adult I wish I knew at least a little bit about music. I can't play even one song on the piano and my mind can't process both hands playing different things at once

you can learn all of music theory in a half hour, everything after that is just memorization of scales and chords. learning theory is just constantly reading the same thing over and over with the hope you will get one new idea you havent thought of before, its constant reinventing the wheel
