I tried. I really don't understand the hype around this band. Listened through most of their stuff a few times and was very underwhelmed. Can't really put my finger on it. I went into listening to this shit being a huge Glocca Morra fan too. Its like they tried being so artsy fartsy and different, naming their band after some obscure spanish film, adding weird sections in their songs with changed time signatures just for the sake of making it sound "different" or "unique" without actually getting a big picture view of whether it sounds good or musical. Shit just sounds contrived. Total art hoe hipster trash. 3/10.

i only know hypnic jerks but i think thats a great album. it does that half awake flipping through channels feeling really well, and the sound design is fucking amazing. i should listen to their other albums sometime.

This is another point to add to the rant. They arguably got as big as they did because they have "le CUTE" alt chick in the band. Not sure how much of their success is driven by her escapades with Panda Bear, but there's certainly something to be said about hype being centered around bands with cutesy chicks playing an instrument. A good example of this is Yvette Young. If you are a guitarist worth your salt, you can listen to her work and be completely underwhelmed. Just really uninspiring, noodley nonsense that all sounds the same. However, she's massively popular and was even inserted into Rolling Stones list of greatest guitarists of all time arguably because, "AAAWWW SHES SOOO CUTE!! :D"
