Is physical media making a comeback?

For a plebeian, CDs or vinyl?

Came out before 1980 vinyl after 1990 cd. For albums from the 80s a good tape or 8 track will do. I know people still largely listened to LPs in the 80s but it just doesn't fit the theme for me.

I forgot about digital. But I hate it so much. What if you lose your login? I had like 15,000 songs on iTunes.

Vinyl’s kind of made a comeback as a novelty but I think even most young people who own records still primarily stream

Vinyl for satisfying collection autism and enjoying the ritual moreso than the music. CD for audio quality. I collect both, it's just fun to. I don't buy new record pressings generally, however

the patrician's choice is CDs at home on your hifi, and minidisc for music on the go

This month i bought two cd's off amazon for the first time in years, and payed 35€ in total

Yes, and they're a lot more fragile as well. Also to temperature, incorrect storage.

I have both vinyl and CD. Vinyl because I like the larger cover combined with a colored vinyl pressing. But some albums are too rare or expensive on vinyl or aren't worth it for me to pay triple the price compared to a CD.

Reasons for physical: I like to own my music in case Spotify or another streaming service takes it offline. I like having a collection and the hunt for a rare item, trying to find it or getting a good deal on it. I like to display them for me to look at and for guests to get an idea of what I like. I like the attention put into the releases. Holding it, looking at the cover, reading through the booklet. Streaming services don't give you that experience.

Absolutely wrong
Vinyl degrades while CDs just become garbage

i don't really think physical is gonna make anymore of a "comeback" than it did 10-15 years ago with the millennials. the only difference now is vinyl prices for anything remotely sought after or prolific is absurd if it's out of print.
maybe cd's get some weird zoomer boon because they fetishize y2k. i don't think the trend will last long enough to really impact cd sales/production though.

>buy cd for cheaper than vinyl
>rip files in flac quality(extremely easy), store files on home server
>enjoy the convenience of a streaming service but with none of the bullshit, and you still have a physical product to show for the money you spent
CDs are currently the best of both worlds, vinyl is for gay hipsters and streaming services are for retards

Why would that be the case when the totality of music is in your pocket
It will remain a niche market for collectors as it was ever since the internet existed

Is there a problem with supporting the artists you like directly by buying something from them so they can live and make more?

Why are you feeling attacked or something? That's cool and all but, as I said, the vast majority of people will just listen to what they like on youtube or spotify, so no, physical wont make a comeback if what you mean is that it will be popular again, it will stay a niche interest
