I love bass but I have to disagree, the way guitar is designed allows for more nuance

This.

The hardest part of bass playing is coming up with a line that fits the song perfectly, whether that's simple or complex, depends on the song and the genre. Playing the thing is the easy part.

>And? That is meaningless.
the limits about what the bass can do are more defined than the limits on the guitar
thats the truth, the guitar can do more roles, more music, there is more complexity to it. Both are good you should learn both.

let me know when a guitarist writes a piece that defines the songs rhythm and harmony, provides a secondary melody that compliments the vocals and is played in perfect time.

That's different than "it's more difficult". The french horn is much more difficult to play than the guitar, but the guitar can do much more, and much more complex things. My point is something being "difficult" is meaningless, it has absolutely no bearing on the music, art is not sports.
