Why doesn't j-pop get the love that k-pop gets?

A better question, why doesn't k-pop get the hipster cred that j-pop gets? People make fun of k-pop constantly, but j-pop is treated as a serious artform.

The answer to both questions is that k-pop is marketed to foreign audiences while j-pop is marketed to the domestic japanese audience. So in the west, liking k-pop is often the result of being marketed towards, while liking j-pop is the result of a proactive effort to find niche music.

The reason I like J-pop is that they still often have "proper" song writing, prechorus, bridges, key changes and all that.
K-pop's tendency is more the western four bar loop R&B thing. Many exceptions on all sides obviously.

K-pop is just trashy American pop sung in Korean. J-pop at least has a bit more identity.
