Absolute kino album, tour and lore. They just don't make bands like this anymore, everyone's too busy treading on eggshells to be creative and actually have a laugh with their mates.

My buddy on a whim called me and told me Derp Purple with gillan were playing a county fair an hour drive down the highway and so we got brews got in the car got stoned and hit the road just for the weird opportunity (this was like 2015) and when they finally came on stage they gave a great performance considering their age. Very memorable night because my gf orgasmed hard when we fucked at home.

>How committed is Ian to the band, though: is this just a short-term move on his behalf?
>"No not at all. He's totally committed to Sabbath
He obviously failed to mention that to Black Sabbath. I think the Deep Purple reunion was about to start, or had already started to brew. It isn't that far-fetched to think that some Purple management/crew people had already talked to Ian about that in the summer of 1983 where these articles are from.

A couple interesting excerpts from Sharpe-Young's book Never Say Die...

>โ€œThe timing was spot on for me because, after the Gillan thing, I had got wind of a mooted Deep Purple reunion, but that was going to take some time as everyone was deeply involved with their various musical enterprises. The guys had started to talk about it though, and it looked like it could happen. Basically, I needed to fill in the time between, so Black Sabbath was a perfect opportunity.โ€

Yeah, I think I believe Geoff Nicholls more than Ian Gillan. Gillan's old bassist John McCoy, and I guess the whole band Gillan was also screwed over by Ian when he joined Sabbath. My impression of Ian Gillan is that he's a happy-go-lucky kind of guy.

Geezer's gone on record before saying that he thought Gillan bailing on Sabbath for the Purple reunion was a slap in the face because he'd told them he was committed but then had clearly been negotiating with Blackmore and Glover behind the scenes right from the start. In his book though he takes a bit of a different tone - while he still says that Gillan was being secretive about it, he was ultimately just relived because it clearly wasn't working and that he suspected all along that Gillan's supposed inability to learn Sabbath's lyrics was just down to him phoning it in because he clearly had something else going on. Iommi though was apparently pissed about it but if there was a falling out over it, he and Gillan obviously made up relatively quickly since not long afterwards they worked on that Rock Aid Armenia thing together and Gillan guested on a couple of shows during the Headless Cross and Tyr tours.
