Decent songs but starting with Megalomania they go on way too long. The second half isnt very good at all. Supertzar and The Writ go on way too fucking long. I do think Symptom of the Universe is one of the best songs they ever did, but it really should have been the opening track.

Megalomania is one of the best hooks Iommi ever wrote so I'm fine with it playing out long, and Symptom of the Universe, while good, is 100% not opening track material.

Is it true that Metallica soundchecked Megalomania at one point during the -86 tour with none other than the Ozz himself joining in?
Thats my Holy fucking Grail now if it actually happened. Cliff and Ozz on the same stage jamming Megalomania together.

The rest of it does too.
There is no reason for you left to keep sleeping on this one now. None. Its exactly 50 fucking years now of this one being regarded as "the beginning of the end" by casuals and normies while in actuality it was the one after this that the wheels actually fell off.

no the damn hell it isn't. they were way too zooked out on coke for this one. SBS was the perfect mix of coke, LSD, alcohol, and occasional opiates. Sabotage, Technical Ecstasy, and Never Say Die seemed to be exclusively cocaine, amphs, and booze. bad mix, especially when they were all down each others' throats at the time

>Megalomania...The second half isnt very good at all.
agree. stupid nursery rhyme riff right up there another brick in the wall. 2nd half of megalomaniac should've been a separate song that should've been shelved.

>Supertzar...
yawn

>...and The Writ go on way too fucking long.
The Writ is fucking badass. The only gripe I have about it (and other songs on that album and on SBS) is the sped up vocals. I drop them into Audacity and drop the pitch - they actually sound better in Ozzy's natural key.
I posted in another thread that if certain songs off of these 2 albums were combined into a separate album the results would be Sabbath's baddest album ever

Sup, normie still clinging to the narrative that Sabotage, Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die! is the same era. But they are not.
Sabotage is the capstone. The dot over the I. The last time they had their shit together, were on a mission and nailed it. Was it an album they liked making? Fuck no. And thats the whole point of it that went swooooosh over your head. The title of it should be your first clue.
When I am in a bad mood Sabotage is my favorite Black Sabbath album. When I am in a good mood the debut is my favorite Black Sabbath album.

Ooooooof the fuckwit redditor irony snark is strong with this one.
The full arrengement of Megalomania as a whole with the crescendo of that particular riff you are panning being masked by keys and all the other weird shit while Ozzy despondently and bereaved wails on top of it all is one of the most unsettling moments in music ever. But that all goes over your shallow head.

This just in. Every album ever pressed is a mood. Well the good ones anyway.
You are not supposed to constantly view one particular album as your favorite if you actually have an open mind about things. I do not have one particular favorite among the first six Black Sabbath albums. Its a tie between the debut and Sabotage depending on what mindset I am in and then the other four in between these two very, VERY slightly behind.

It really is the filter to end all filters, is it not?
I am not even a metalhead myself and I have had metalhead friends who got filtered hard by it.

You have already proven the opposite about yourself. Stop coping and lying about it.
You are not an open minded indivual. You are an atomized normie slave to consensus.

The band themselves seem to consider either Master of Reality or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath their absolute favorites to make it seems.
Really though the first three albums seems to have been the most innocent phase.
I fluctuate between the debut and Sabotage as my personal favorite full length to listen through. But my favorite song of theirs will always be Solitude.
