jazz has eluded me for years but I found pic related and I really like it. It moves, grooves, the songs don't meander and above all it's catchy and fun. What else should I look into?

not every pianist can pull out a jazz version of 'beat it' but mal was a great one

I'm still confused as to what exactly this means. I understand rock, rap, electronic versions of other songs but I still don't get what makes jazz "jazz" besides technical aspects like blue notes and seventh chords. That and the generally mellower, softer sound as well as trumpets
