Are there any musicians who have taken Kurt Cobain's stance on ticket prices to heart and sold really cheap tickets to their concerts when they could sell them for much higher profit margins? If so, shouldn't these artists get RESPECT for being cool?

I respect all artists that go into debt after a tour because they used all their money to build cool sets and keep their ticket prices low. Yes they do exist. No I'm not telling you which artists!

All live events need to go back to being pay-at-the-door or tickets can only be sold at nearby stores like they were in the 50s and 60s.
Digital payment is such a scam.

yeah dude, today's artists should just sell 10 million physical units of album and buy gas for a dollar a gallon to keep touring cheap just like Kurt did!

In his last years, he started hating punk rock ethics, as he became estranged from the whole Olympia movement of purists who rejected any kind of deal with a big label.
I think he called them something akin to losers who whine because they could never write anything appealing to a big audience, so they dress that in a holier-than-thou 'punk ethics' attitude to mask their lack of talent

no. no one who cares about that is big anymore. and the small artists are already cheap.

i remember wanting to go see radiohead when i was a kid and the tickets were like $150 to get in the door. that was after in rainbows and pay what you want, ironically. fucking hypocrites.

mgk sold 5k $12 tickets yesterday and announced a free concert as well. Maybe Bob Dylan was right in picking him as the savior of music. Kurt probably would have picked him as his protege.

One of main principles of FUGAZI. In fact they were actually so cool that rightist were performing insane mental gymnastic to separate FUGAZI's music from their politics so they could justify listening to them. It was hilarious.

If you're a major act selling tickets for $20, scalpers will buy them and resell them to rich people for $160 anyway. I'd rather the artist get that money (to the extent ticket sales actually end up with the artists -- but that's a separate issue)

Kanye west when he was doing his Vultures listening party last year. Everything was $20 the t-shirts, the hoodies, the shoes, the tickets.
I'm not even a hip hop fan (I just work at the arena) but yeah I had to give him some respect for doing that. Super cool thing to do imo. In his defense he's been triple cancelled at this point and the stadium was less than half full so maybe he just needed to drop prices to get people to come but still was cool to see in the world of $200 tickets, $100 sweaters and $60 tshirts

No, he was already a rockstar with mainstream success and was feeling guilty about it. And I think he got the cold shoulder treatment either from Calvin Johnson or some of those from the underground scene. He got pissed about it and wrote that he won't give one single dime to the punk rock larpers who couldn't write a good song for shit

There's even a police incident, in which Courtney went to Olympia to "kill Calvin" because he upset Kurt. I think Calvin got a court restraining order against her.

The Cure were like that a couple years ago. They threatened not to play at several venues because they were going to overcharge for t shirts, they capped the tour shirt prices at $25 and the tickets somewhere below $100 iirc

*as in the best tickets would be that much, I think it was closer to $60 for general admission which is really good for a band of their stature
