Interdasting, I thought Def Leppard was much older than Iron Maiden. As a kid in the early 90s I remember classifying Def Leppard as "boring old dad music". Iron Maiden, on the other hand, was in the cool category.

And if you want to bring popularity into it, my argument still stands: no one could name a Maiden song; I've listed 2-3 Priest songs that actual people actually know. Circular reasoning arguments notwithstanding, Priest has had more impact (penetration, if you will) than Maiden ever could.
