Ash Ra Tempel is one of the least good classic kraut-rock bands. I don't even consider their debut to be their best. Neu! are good, just not great, the thing is that their three albums are pretty consistent in quality while trying always something new, that alone justifies their legacy.

Because it's not impressive at all. Other bands like CAN or Popol Vuh made heavy ambient earlier and better than them. Even the 90s tribute band Hash Jar Tempo is superior.

It's better than Ash Ra Tempel but not better than Tago Mago. Manuel Gosthungs best is his mid 70s solo album by a huge margin.

No way. Neu! we're on the same level easily. I agree this is a case where the most popular thing was in fact good but don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. Neu! are in fact a certified Prussian Classic bwahaha. Great German Psychedelia.
>>127260756
It's only offensive if anybody of German decent is offended by it and also probably also one of the least offensive expressions of pride of German decent bwahaha. But no nobody is offended by the term krautrock. Krautrock is something worn with pride.

Your problem is seeing it as "heavy ambient" instead of the ballsy psych-ROCK that it is. Göttsching was initially inspired by Blue Cheer and Albert Ayler and wanted to fuse those together.

It's not supposed to be "impressive" retard. It's basically proto ambient but as boomer rock instead of on synth. The point of Michael Rothers work is rarely to technically impress. It is intentionally paired down. It's experimental in how it's paired down or simplified or minimalist. It's supposed to be airy and reflective.

I was trying to give it a groundbreaking aspect to it. In terms of psychedelia, is a bit dull honestly compared not only to contemporaries but to most of the late 60s scene.

1. Why does it need a direction? The radical freeness of it is what makes it so powerful and good
2. No impact? What about Acid Mothers Temple and Bardo Pond (via Hash Jar Tempo) explicitly naming themselves after Ash Ra Tempel? Basically the two biggest bands in (good) contemporary psychedelia and what albums is their sound most aligned with? Oren Ambarchi and Ariel Pink got on stage with Göttsching on Melbourne to play Ash Ra Tempel and you say that's no impact

Yeah I'd agree for Well Oiled It really is just everything good about space rock in one amazing set of jams + Roy is always brilliant. For "mainline" BP I love the guitar sound and stoner-gaze hybrid on lapsed, and the first half of Bufo Alvarius rocks so hard in such a loose way while Amen is just totally brilliant. Such a great group, I don't know how many other bands have so much consistently good material. AMT, Fushitsusha, Ramleh, Skullflower, Vibracathedral, Dead C... It's a pretty small club really.

Nice! For me it's also Lapsed, their most raw and complete record without counting Well Oiled. By the way I don't like Under Glass that much, don't think making Roy play an organ while trying to imitate classical compositions was the best of ideas, I love the first track tho. Amen is my favourite piece of theirs.
