forget Never Say Die or whatever this was obviously Sabbath's absolute nadir when there wasn't even actually a band, it was just an Iommi solo record the label insisted on putting the Sabbath name on for marketing purposes as this was between the Gillan and Martin lineups. Likely just recorded because Tony needed coke money and it was also released the same day the Space Shuttle blew up.

I like Seventh Star, love Hughes big soulful voice. Like the other two solo albums Iommi did with him, too.

It would always be preferable to have geezer in the fold too, but honestly im willing to accept it as Sabbath as long as Iommi is there. The quality of their records was shaky after the mid 70s anyway

Amazing he went from Zero the Hero and Disturbing the fucking Priest to this soft rock bullshit. He should have paid Gillan whatever he wanted to keep him in the band for at least another couple of records, but then again, there's no way that would have happened with that Purple reunion on the table, unfortunately, and Dio was already in a more successful solo band. Like the other dude said, this was Iommi chasing the AOR shlock dollar for more coke money, and he was so high he forgot he owed the record label another Sabbath album, so they just slapped the BS name on it and called it a day much to the chagrin of fans. The record label turning this into a "Black Sabbath" album was the best thing that could have happened to it to as this would have been totally memory-holed before the end of the decade, despite the revisionism going on about it these days being an "underrated classic".

black sabbath covers are mostly shit, this one is too, but I have to admit that Tony with that "I don't know what the fuck to do" look in the middle of nowhere is very fitting

Born Again is the sound he should've had throughout the 80s, the label support has been nothing but garbage to Sabbath for literally their entire career, I don't know how Sharon became so competent but she sure as shit didn't learn it there

It looks like the cover of some bad 80s paperback novel.

It's a good album, if your complaint is that it doesn't sound like earlier sabbath thats really dumb dude. In for the kill is a great song

>standard unimaginative thrash vocal melody over some one in a dozen chugging riffs
There's a reason why these guys and band like them never became big.

The cream usually rises to the top and they definitely weren't the cream.

Every Sabbath album is better than any other metal album by any other band. End of.
