I'm an ESL and 99% of the music I listen to are from The UK. Most of the time it's unintentional - I just happen to like an album, which happens to be British.

Why were the Brits so good at making music? Why is American music so inferior? And can the rest of the world even compete?

There is (or used to be) a streak of amateurism in British music that was encouraged, instead of pushed away. A normal group of lads would get their hands on instruments they had no idea how to play, occasionally it would end up sounding good or interesting by accident. In the rest of Europe, making music was only for the elite or classically trained.

I feel the same way but the quality of UK music has really fallen off after the 90s

England and the UK was on a creative run during the 70s to about the 90s. Idk what was in the water or food that made them produce so many household names in music like sabbath, led Zeppelin, the beatles, the who, the sex pistols, the cure, siouxsie and the banshees, real different stuff

americans are vastly more conformist than brits. more conformist than anyone. there's an interesting american band maybe once every decade. the british are individuals at heart, or at least used to be.
