i don't think they were industry plants, but daft punk got signed on a huge label after only two singles, one of them being "da funk". the first one didn't even chart, and da funk sold 2000 copies in its first release.
somehow this lead to a bidding war by major record labels to to sign them over. virgin won and basically benevolently agreed to daft punk's terms and conditions that were refused to much more eminent artists (the right to keep ownership of the masters and only license them to virgin). then virgin got the hottest music directors of the time to create videos for 4 tracks from this album.
can't think of a bigger 0 to a 100 career jump.

Feels like Sophie Xeon should have been a plant but they weren't even well-liked within the posh scene they came up from at first and had to really slog it past the initial hate for being so camp and garish so it doesn't really count

She is the ultimate industry plant but no one wants to wake up and acknowledge it. I remember when she became famous back in 2011. The narrative at the time was that edited a music video for "Video Games" by herself and that it "went viral" and immediately earned her a record deal. I was heavily online at the time and can confirm that she had already signed her record deal BEFORE this video was created/posted. It was posted on an official LanaDelReyVEVO account and was heavily recommended alongside every established artist with a "VEVO" account at that time. The cover for Born To Die was already being used to promote the upcoming album. The video did not go viral in the true sense of the word. Also, when she first sang on SNL, it seemed likely that it was either her first or second time ever performing on a stage.

But how could someone invent the narrative that the "Video Games" video earned her the deal if everyone would be able to see that the video was posted on a VEVO account? It's as if someone could pretend a robber was innocent to the witnesses of the crime, or whatever like that.

I did some digging. They claimed that she originally posted it to her personal YouTube account in the summer of 2011, it "went viral" and then the shadowy music execs immediately gave her a record deal. She deleted the original video in August 2011 and then reuploaded it onto a VEVO account two months later (with a header image promoting the upcoming release of Born To Die), in October. It is unclear whether the original video ever actually "went viral." It had around 7,000 views before Luke Pritchard from The Kooks posted the link to Twitter, and subsequently The Weeknd posted it to his tumblr. The original video amassed a total of 431,000 views on the day of its deletion on August 12, 2011. Whether this qualifies as "viral" is definitely subjective.

Always kek when people think billie and clairo are just lucky girls who became famous from their bedroom, also i see youtubers teaching how to replicate their success, as if it is possible with the (((secret ingredient))).
If you watch her interviews, it gets even more showing how big the team behind her his. I cant see her talking and picture that person producing/writing/conceptualizing the song in charm. She feels like the most generic normie when talking. Maybe she is actually smart and just put that persona during interviews. Maybe.
Anyway, i like charm.

She is not even pretty, just not ugly and still young.
