>>127277687 (OP) I was never into Metallica solos. I guess the One solo is decent. I don't remember how any other went, and I've listened to their albums many times. But keep in mind, that I'm extremely picky about solos in general.
>>127279563 The only good solo is Creeping Death. Other than that, it's the outro solo to Nothing Else Matters.

>>127277687 (OP) lifeless guitar solos akin to warmup technical exercises. wimpy personal tone = necessity of highly processed tone with excessive EQ and outboard effects. plus the fucking wah wah pedal

Listen to The God that Failed, One, Orion (he wrote the bass solo), The Memory Remains and Phantom Lord and tell me he's not great
>>127280254 >Phantom Lord That feels more like a Dave solo but otherwise I agree. I never understood the hate Kirk got over his solos when they're generally all really good up to and including the Black Album. One and Blackened are probably my personal favorite of his solos.
>>127280364 I like these ones: https://youtu.be/ku3rcVFyQzw?t=338 https://youtu.be/mSNKnMJ4A_g?t=180 https://youtu.be/YwQJu1ua6VQ?t=142 https://youtu.be/sONL6QUMR9E?t=188 https://youtu.be/bZKK5Qhz3LA?t=171
It's not that I dislike solos in other songs. Many complement their songs well, but just haven't left an emotional impact on me by themselves. Pretty much all of my favorite albums don't feature any such solos.
>>127280512 There's nothing you can do if your criteria is a solo that impacts you emotionally. It either does or it doesn't hit you. From your samples, it sounds like you prefer fast, lyrical solos, which definitely is not Cobain, so look for guitarists who are known for lyrical soloing. Although, be careful if you ask anyone, because if they're a fanboy, they'll think "lyrical" means "I like them," and take insult from the claim that their boy isn't lyrical. https://youtu.be/L06vyjY8k2A?t=93
>>127280666 I like this Rigor Mortis record a lot. I remember that I definitely registered this solo in the past, but just forgot about it. Now that I listen to it, it's pretty good. Thanks for pointing it out to me!

>>127280512 seems like you like a lot of sweeps and hammer-ons/pull-offs. check out yngwie malmsteen maybe.
>>127280666 >not posting their most SOVLful solo this shit makes me rock hard. also to anyone that hasn't listened to rigor mortis, i'd suggest listening to the whole album first since this is the closing song and it's a beautiful cathartic end https://youtu.be/IjM2oHtPDdE?t=130
>>127280320 Ive seen and read a bunch of stuff over the years giving credit to Kirk for cliffs solos, also it seems that Metallica has a "solos don't count as writing" policy >>127280354 It is a Dave solo but Kirk plays it differently then how Dave exactly would and it comes out great. Dave is the better guitarist if you ask me, but that doesn't make Kirk bad.
